Question

One project for several videos or several projects for one video (each)...?

I am about to make several (50+) short (5 - 10 mins) videos for my site. I have used Premiere Pro and AfterEffects to create similar videos before, but then just one at the time. Now I am starting a larger project and want to do it right - som could you give me some inpiuts and pros and cons about how to organize the work: Should I have one project for all videos in the project, or should each video have its own project?
I can see advantages with both methods, however - since they will share some assets like stills etc. I am inclined to choos one project with all videos.

Looking forward to getting advice from you out there who knows what is best and perhaps have tried it out!

Regards, Håkan

Thanks for your replies!
The videos I am making are for one project which is my own. The videos are different, but sometimes share the smae assets like texts, backgrounds etc. So I think the best way to deal with it would be to have all in the same project. It is a chalange to find the correct way to organize the asstes so it is possible to get a good overview. This is what is achived if each film was one project.
I think I go for one project - several videos!

Thanks again! /Håkan

It is a chalange to find the correct way to organize the assets so it is possible to get a good overview.

Plan your Bins before you start.

Name them and Organise them for your purpose.  Label Colors can be helpful.

Try and organise and name  your Bin Folders similar to the way they are organised on your Hard Drives.

I generally choose one project per...well, project.  If all 50 videos are "one project", my preference would probably be for 50 sequences in one Premiere Pro project.

Having said that, I think one must look at what determines a project.  If we're talking about a single client who wants a different version of the video, one for each state, I'd consider that one project.  If we're talking about a film festival with 50 different entries, I'd consider that 50 different projects, even though they're all for the same festival.

Personally I recommend one project file for all videos, when necessary create additional sequences within that project when you want to create separate videos. Me for example, If I shoot an event and at the end of the day or the next morning I look at the files on my camera and see I have 8 videos or something like that where maybe I started and stopped to ahead of time try to minimize the edits. Well, files 1 and 2 might go together, 3 and 4 together, likewise 5 and 6, and 7 and 8; in my process I put them together with transitions of my choice, slice and ripple delete out anything I don't like, maybe even even mess with some lighting effects if I'm not satisfied with the way it looks.

In this scenario as I mentioned, I would end up with 4 sequences within the project. It makes sense to me to put all assets in bins/folders in the project for organization purposes; videos in a bin, sequences in a bin, any pictures in their own bin ect ect. But yes I recommend create one project and as long as the footage and assets all relate to the same project, event  or whatever, make new sequences as you need them.
