Opening Preferences Menu freezes Premiere Pro

Hello to all,

it's very problematic but since yesterday for no reason I can't access the preferences menu of Premier Pro and After Effects.
The problem started with a notification that there was a problem with the MME audio driver or something like that. 

Solutions I've tried (to no avail):
Updating My Drivers

Resetting Premiere's Preferences

Uninstalling and Reinstalling through Creative Cloud

Downgrading to an older version

I'm not sure what to try and fix it at this point.
