Question

Output looks horrible - Compensation Gamma LUT not helping anymore

The first problem is my imported video looks way worse in the preview screen. Then I have this new problem where just activating the effects in the output screen with no effects selected causes the picure to become dramatically washed out. Adding the gamma compensation lut makes it even worse. Adding Hue Preservation effect gets and gamma compensation gets it close but not really.

The discrepency between output and preview window has been going on for a long time and instead of improving its getting worse. I urge you to get your act together and fix your product.

Im using version 23.6.2 on Mac OS

I might suggest that you need to learn how to work with all the new color management options in Premiere. As then there won't be such problems.

Including... learning about the reason for that "gamma compensation LUT" in the first place. Which is solely due to Apple making a bizarre choice, to use the Rec.709 camera transform function as the display function. So many Mac screens use approximately gamma 1.96 rather that the standards listed approximately gamma 2.4.

But in the new CM options in Premiere, you can choose the display gamma. So you might prefer the QuickTime 1.96 option.

Understand, if you pic that option (or use the old export LUT) ... that on all non-Macs, or even the newer Mac screens with Reference mode options, that file is going to  get pretty dark.

As you cannot display an image with two diverse display functions and get the same visual image.

But do check the Lumetri panel Settings tab. Every CM control is there.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
