Output monitor not working in 2020

Hey, Preference>Playback>Video Device used to let me select my monitor for playback output (in 2019), in 2020 nothing happens! Is there a check box that I've missed somewhere or is this just a bug (my money is just a bug).

    You're welcome! It can get confusing, but here's likely what's happening. When you're hitting "Cmd+\" and then seeing the video fullscreen on your second monitor it's because Transmit was already enabled. The "Cmd+\" is more like "Maximize Interface" than "Play Video Fullscreen." 

     

    To confirm that this is the same issue, make sure "Maximize Interface" is disabled. Toggle your "Enable Transmit" shortcut a few times to confirm that's working properly, then leave it enabled. Now hit "Cmd+\" to "Maximize Interface." Transmit will disable, but as soon as you hit "Cmd+\" again Transmit will re-enable.

     

    As I mentioned this is how Transmit to a second monitor has worked for at least a couple years now, and the behavior is identical between 2019 and 2020. Perhaps you weren't using "Cmd+\" before or conincidentally, you never had them both enabled at the same time. This is how it was for me because one day I also thought there was a bug. It took me ages and ages to put together what was happening.

      Thank You - I have been fighting with th is working and not working for a couple of years. I have found in the past that resetting my preferences has fixed this but I get tired of resetting my preferences. This is a much better working solution. The "CMD + \" key sequence does realign the display windows correctly to display my playback on my second screen via mercury transmit.

        Nothing has changed between 2019 and 2020 in terms of how to enable Mercury Transmit for playing back on an external monitor. It's working fine for me and these are the settings I'm using.

         

        However, there is a longstanding behavior that made me think Mercury Transmit to a second monitor was broken for years. I only figured this out last year, and perhaps it's what you're running into.

         

        Are you by any chance making Premiere full screen using the Ctrl/Cmd + "\" command? This isn't the same as just maximizing the window. It hides the title bar and locks the interface to full screen giving you a slightly more immersive workspace. If this mode is enabled Mercury Transmit will not work on a second monitor. As soon as you disable this mode Mercury Transmit will work. This behavior is the same in After Effects and has been a big 'gotcha' for me for a long time.

          Thanks so much for the reply, this has actually fixed the issue that I’m not sure that it has solved it, having hit full screen once (cmd\) I now get full screen playback on my second monitor…but if I toggle full screen on and off the problem doesn’t replicate.

           
          Problem’s fixed so thanks very much for your help, but not sure that it is totally right at the moment, especially when it “just worked” in 2019.
