Pasting text copied from Microsoft Word tables

Original post which I've closed (marked answered) here: Pasting titles copied from Microsoft Word 2016

So, weird thing is happening when I paste text copied from a table in Word, into an existing title in Premiere.

The copied text will completely replace all of the existing title, even if I only have some of that title selected, or I have the cursor inserted in the title where I want the new text pasted.

But if I paste the text in a sticky note or notepad first, then copy it again from there, then that clipboard contents pastes as expected into the title without affecting any existing text.

Can anyone else reproduce this behaviour?

Can anyone guess what is going on here?

Cheers.

    Correct answer the outward spiral

The original title 2 lines only had a few carriage returns between them.. the pasted stuff moved the bottom line down more.

    Hi Rodney. Thanks for testing.

I notice you're copying/pasting a group of cells in their entirety.

What happens when you select just one word (or part of a word) from one cell?

I converted my doc to RTF as you did, and the problem persisted. Perhaps you're getting different results by creating a simple table from scratch, whereas I'm working from a table supplied by a client. Also, you're using CS6 and Word 2010, whereas I'm using CC2018 and Word 2016.

Anyway, I found that converting the doc to PDF solved the issue, and this is a better idea that pasting tables into Excel as previously mentioned.

This is not an answer, but it is a more convenient workaround than converting a Word table to plain text. (refer to the original post to see how we arrived at that: Pasting titles copied from Microsoft Word 2016)

    Workaround:

Select the table in Word, copy, and paste it into a new Excel worksheet.

The worksheet retains the formatting of the original table, but allows you to copy the contents of a cell, and paste it successfully to add it into an existing Premiere title (this cannot be done from a Word table).

Hi Spiral, Here's what I did...

Made a title in CS6.  Two lines, with several spaces between them...because eventually I wanted to paste something in between, and see if it erased or lost any of the original 2 lines....

Then a made a table in Word 2010 and put the words TEST 1, TEST 2, etc. into the table.

Then I saved the Word thing as an RTF ( rich text format ).

Then I dragged mouse through table and selected the words in the table....

Then I pasted that into the title...

    Worked well.
