Playback lagging extremely

Hi 

 

I do have a real issue with Premiere Pro and it is something I don't understand. The playback is extremly laggy. It almost doesn't move. Guess it plays back every 100s Frame. It plays back in 1/8s resolution but not in full resolution. 

The funny thing is that CPU is at 11% Usage, RAM is 40% used, IGPU 11% Usage, GPU maybe 15%. So The computer is almost sleeping.

It gets even more funny because scrubbing through the footage is fully smooth at full resolution.

It is DJI Footage HEVC 10 bit 4:2:0 

 

What is wrong here?.. To me it seems its not a performance issue but something else.

 

Computer is a:

Intel 12700k

32GB DDR5 RAM

M.2 PCI 4.0 1TB

GeForce 1050TI 4GB

    I am having the same issue but a little different, footage from my DJI Air2s 5.4k 10 bit 30fps etc etc imported into premiere the play back from the source monitor works smoothly even on full playback when clicking on the footage BUT when i drag the part i want or the whole clip i want into the timeline and play it back on the program monitor it is laggy like hell (even tried all the playback resolutions from 1/8 - full and still was the same) and when i exported it the first frame on the clip was just still. I then did my research online and seen people with similar issues even on the DJI forum. I just tested something out like now at this time lol so i got the raw original file from the drone transferred it into the PC etc etc. and put that through to adobe media encoder and basically transcoded that back to HEVC (H265) matched it to close to the size of the orginal and when it finished exporting i put that file back into premiere, onto the time line and now it plays smooooooth AF. So i think it might be how DJI is transcoding or using HEVC H265 thats the issue. I took a screen shot: so the blue circled is the original clip from the drone and the red circle one is the re-transcoded (using media encoder) HEVC H265 clip. the re-transcoded one is more higher file size like i said i tried to match but that one plays smoothly compared to the original one. I hope this helps in some way im not no expert but i thought id try this and it seemed to work so maybe its on DJI not Adobe even though i thought my self it was Adobes issue but yeah id like to get to the bottom of this lol

    I have the same problem, I thought it was my laptop, Macbook Pro 2017-2.9Ghz Quad Intel Core i7, 16GB 2133 Mhz ram. All camera footage plays back with lag! Drone footage or gopros are unusable, have to review eveything real time, if i try to scan faster, everything locks up, sometimes 20-30seconds before image updates. 

    Collegueas overseas I share projects with were still on 2021, then they updated to 2022 and all complained of same issue, that's when I realized it is fault of 2022. 

    I have tried all the fixes, nothing fixes it. It is frustrating beyond belief, and I want to throw the whole the entire program in the garbage. Very sad to see such an essential aspect of editing get ruined.

    Please FIX NOW!

      If you transcode this footage to a non-HEVC codec, do you get better performance all round?

       

      I'm not saying this as a solution, I'm saying this as a troubleshooting step to figure out the root of the issue.

      I see. This is the solution at the moment. But, I would like Premiere to take these heights uncompromisingly. I'm just talking about frames now, without effects, without painting. So that forward and backward there are improvements in playback, not frame jumps.

      Just to be clear: HEVC is NOT an editing codec. It was not designed as an editing codec, it was not meant to be an editing codec. And yet, people use it as an editing codec.

      It sounds like you have a fundamental misunderstanding about how HEVC codecs work. Simply moving around on a timeline with HEVC footage is extremly taxing on a device due to the way HEVC works. Technically, each frame doesn't even exist. Specific frames are a combination of previous and future frames. This is why file sizes on HEVC files are smaller. Each time you move your cursor on your timeline, your device has to perform a ton of calculations in order to display a single frame to you.

       

      Adobe may be able to make improvements or hardware will become so advanced that these calculations become trivial... but that time is not now and you should likely be transcoding any HEVC footage you wish to edit.

      Most likely, the subcreditation is 4:2:2, not 4:2:0. If so, then the 10-bit format is extremely difficult to reproduce. Now I'm doing projects with a 4:2:2 subcriding, 10 bits does not reproduce smoothly in the project.

      But id did a few days ago.. Perfect smoothly. Don't really know what happened in between.

      And if something is complicated to decode or encode there should be load on the CPU or GPU. but a lower 2 digit utilization isn't enough.

      That is really annoying. Especially because entirely blocks working with footage.

      I am surprised at this myself and cannot understand why it is so difficult to solve. Performance and stability are now in the first place.

      Sorry to post here so many updates. 

      One more info to the issue. A week ago I worked on the project and it worked like a charm so it is not the computer configuration. I remember an Intel Graphics driver update but can't locate which. I also updated the latest NVIDIA driver. No change

       

      I also uninstall and reinstalled premiere pro with no result. Also downgrading to an later version didn't help

       

      I also realized that in general permiere behaves strange. Some minutes it is super response and scrubbing is ultra fast. And 10sec later it is lagging and not showing a picture on clicking on new footage. All with almost no utilization of the computer.

      This is constantly observed. This is a performance headache that needs to be addressed in the shortest possible time. Tired of the same problem from update to update. And the main

      One more thing i just realized. For some clips the playback needs a few seconds until it turns from black ot the real playback although the timeline is way over the point where it should show frames. Some Performance utilization of the computer.
