TL;DR: Disappearing presets? Try going to Settings > Media Cache > Remove Media Cache Files > Delete
Hey all, I figured I'd make a quick post cuz I was having an issue with my Premiere presets (transitions, LUTs, etc) disappearing from the effects bin every time I closed the app, which necessitated me reimporting them each session only to lose them again after closing. Very frustrating.
Searching the forum, I found a lot of solutions that involved a complete de/re-install of PP or resetting to factory defaults or text-editing system files and I really didn't wanna go through all that, but I eventually stumbled upon - what for me anyway - was a quick and easy fix.
If you're having this issue, before any nuclear options, try doing the following (I'm on MacOS, not sure if Windows menu structure is any different but I assume it's fairly similar):
In the top system menu bar, select "Premiere Pro" then mouse down to "Settings" which should have a pop-out menu. In that menu, select "Media Cache". This will open a window labeled "Preferences" which is weird because the menu is "Settings" but whatever, I'm not here to judge. In the top section of the menu, there's a block called "Media Cache Files" and the third option down should be "Remove Media Cache Files" with a delete button next to it. Hit that delete button. (See attached image) Then restart PP.
As far as I can tell, this does not delete any preferences, settings, etc, and should not affect any of your saved projects. For me at least, not only did it immediately fix the problem, but every one of my previously imported presets had been restored to the effects bin upon reopening which was awesome!
I hope this helps someone. I'm self-taught and I know a lot of you are too so our lack of knowledge about the inner workings of PP can stymie us but make us reluctant to go messing around with database files (probably the wrong term for what this is) and whatnot. It also makes getting advice from PP experts difficult since I think most of them assume we would've already tried something that is so obvious to them before posting to a forum.
Anyway, again, hope this helps! Happy editing!
