PP 25.0 won't open old projects

I am no longer able to open older projects with v 25.0.

When I try to open an older project that was created in v24 or earlier, PP 25.0 goes through the standard on-screen process of creating a new project file that is compatible with v25.0. However, after going through the process, it doesn't actually create the updated project file.  It simply does nothing and returns me to the regular opening screen.  In other words, when I try to open any older version project, the end result is that an updated project file is not created and the program acts as if nothing happened.  It's impossible for me to open any previous programs.

I'm running OS 14.6.1 on a Mac Studio

Correct answer decaharms

It looks like my issue was that for some reason after the v25.0 update all of my external drives became read-only. So once I fixed that issue, I no longer got the 'scratch disc' errors but the v25.0 project files created from the old versions were able to be written to the discs and then opened.  So my mystery is solved.

Well, aside from that fix we put into 25.1, for the issue present in 25.0... 😉

I take [above] to mean you've tried both the official (25.0) and beta (25.1) release, and saw the same behavior in both, is that correct?

The problem we fixed (in 25.1) had to do with the display of a progress bar, during import/opening operations. Perhaps, for the projects with a missing scratch disk, that interrupts/avoids the progress dialog bug?

Can you send me a .prproj that will not open in 25.0? [We don't need the media]

Your project opens fine for me, in PPro 25.1 and PPro beta 25.2.

Bruce,

There's really no difference between v25.0 and 25.1. I've discovered that for some reason some of the older projects open and some don't.  It's very strange.  If it's a clue, on the projects that won't open, I get a message saying that my scratch disk isn't available.  On the projects that do open, I don't get that message.

This may be a side effect of a bug we've already fixed, in the current PPro beta (25.1); do you see the same behavior there?
