Question

PP missing plugin to play .dv files?

It seems I need to find a correct plugin for the Premiere program to play .DV files now but I don't know what plug in, or where to find it. Can anyone help?

As my Project crashes withing 1-2 minutes of starting it up, but with this message coming up beforehand when I go to start it...

"The preset used by one or more sequences in this project requires third party components that could not be located. These sequences will be modified to use a custom sequence setting instead. To continue editing using the original preset, quit the application without saving the project, reinstall any third-party compnents that are required to open the project."

Looking at my timeline before the crash I see that the clips that are .DV are brown and I think need relinking? (Though there is no window beforehand telling me that these files are offline)

I cannot import .DV clips into a new project that I make. So PP can no longer accept/play them for some reason. However my Mac can play .DV files via Quicktime.

I have no idea what 3rd party plugin is needed to play .DV files in PP, does anyone know what they are or where to get them?

I use Adobe PP 2018. (Was told that going back to th 2017 version would do the trick but don't know how to do that, or if I still can)

A few months ago I did an upgrade on my 2016 Macbook Pro from El Capitan to Big Sur. I am not sure what that did to things, as I don't believe I did a PP update as well.

I didn't moved any project files on my external hard drive to a new location either.

If anyone can help I would be so grateful as this is causing me unnecessary time and stress and the Adobe Chat help didn't solve this for me either.

...What plugin do I need?

(This is a follow up to a previous thread I did yesterday, which seems to have the root of the problem in this new thread's possible solution)

It is extraordinary if Premiere Pro 2018 is still running in Big Sur. It is not supposed to, Apple have deliberately blocked all old software. However, apps that were already installed sometimes dodge a bullet and keep running. But only for a while. Plan for getting up to date and losing the 2018 version any day, when you are busiest...

Meanwhile, Premiere Pro can't read DV files, and so I suggest you conver them to a supported video format using an external app. QuickTime used to do that, but from what I read, Apple have binned that too. Do you have an older system you can boot up and use?

Yeah I've just been told to get the 2021 version by Adobe. Of course I am apprehensive as the 2021 new version may screw up some of the footage that I'm using on older projects. (Seems the 2018 version is bad enough not playing .dv files)

What do you mean by 'older system'? Are you referring to an older PP version? As I'm considering getting a 2017 version that may still play .dv files.

The problem with even converting my .dv files is that my PP project crashes even before I can start to relink 1 single clip. So if I have my .dv files to a new format which PP can play, this project won't give me the chance to relink even 1 of those new formatted clips.
