Question

Premier Pro 2018 stopped working with any 4k footage.

Hello

For almost a month I've been working with new 2018 prem and performance has been decent.

But for about a week I started experiencing weird issue with it. As soon as I add any 4k footage to my composition, scale it down 1080p and scrub on timeline, my reference monitor stops displaying, timeline stops working and after that can't render and I ' cant exit prem because it crashes.  I've changed rendering mode from CUDA to software, but issues still persist.

Unfortunately I have limited amount I can spend on editing and our IT team have no idea how to fix it. I use 2017 at the moment which works fine.

My machine specs :
GFX : 1080 GTXCPU: i7 7700K

RAM : 32 GB

WINDOWS 10 and prem are installed on ssd.

Thing I've tried to fix it:

- restarting

- shutting down completely

- reinstalling Premiere and media encoder

- cleaning/moving the media cache

- resetting preferences

Any help would be appreciated.

Be sure to use Cineform proxies for all your footage.

surly that should be reason why it  stops and crashes?

Try it.  Then you'll know.

Quick question: did the issue occured after an update to the GPU driver or a Windows update, or just started out of the blue?

It looks like it stared out of blue to be honest though I had installed software prior to this occurrence, specifically VLC and smooth video project, but they were uninstalled after I saw what happened. Driver updates were installed after the prems behaviour . Weirdly enough when 2018 freezes it affects 2017, which freezes too. What I need to do is reset preferences and 2017 works fine after, but I soon as I open same videos in 2018, nothing works. Could this be down to video codecs?
