I still managed to recover premiere 2020 through time machine (blessed be time machine) but I no longer fear the a/v acquisition drivers because it does not see the camera (an old panasonic dv). can you help me?

Hi, @Nutrirbene

For your particular issue, start a chat with Adobe support using the Virtual Assitant chat bubble (https://www.adobe.com/about-adobe/contact.html).  It should show at the lower right of the page.

To get past the virtual assistant, type, "Agent".  You should get the option to continue via chat or telephone.  Once you're speaking to a live agent, ask for the "Video Queue Team".  (Note:  They're available Monday through Friday, 7am to 7pm PSD.)  Explain that you need an older version of Premeire Pro for DV capture.

I wish there was an automated, self-help approach to this, but you'll need to talk to a member of the support team that specialized in video.

Since your running macOS, try using iMovie to capture your DV tapes.  https://support.apple.com/guide/imovie/import-from-tape-based-cameras-mov6af9c94c1/mac.  Assuming that works as expected, you can import the resulting videos into Premiere Pro.
