Premiere Issues 2019 Mac Pro

Hi Everyone,

I hope you're keeping well.

I am just posting to see if anyone has had any simliar rendering issues to what I am having with the latest 2019 Mac Pro and Adobe Premiere/Media Encoder.

Since purchasing our new kit, we were given by our supplier near enough 800GB of RAM within the Mac. Since using the machine we have had constant battles with exporting files and timeline playback. 99% of the footage we use are Sony RAW MXF files. We are having major problems where the timeline won't play back in Premiere and also exports crashing through Media Encoder. We have tried using Beta, but this hasn't improved anything, so I was hoping if someone could shed any light on what is going on please?

We have tried adjusting our project settings and made sure we are using metal. We have previously been advised the only way to get around this is to transcode the footage, but this won't work for our needs as we are against tight deadlines.

Sorry for the long post, but it would be great to get some help.

Cheers

I have the Mac Pro 2019 and the Sony fx9, and I'm having the same problems as you.

Were you able to fix the problem you had? Or are you still having trouble with this?

Maybe @Warren Heaton10841144 could help? He's pretty sharp on the Mac side of things.

You're not alone.  I'm also using a 2019 Mac Pro.  Been using Premiere daily for 6 years, and it's always been buggy.  With latest updates, and on this system in particular, it's become unusable. Yes you can transcode to ProRes and it'll help (this one issue).  But Resolve and Avid edit the same Sony MXFs (FX6, FX9, Venice) beautifully.  Don't hold your breath for a fix, either...

Do you have some b-roll that you can share?

Premiere Pro is running really well on my work 2019 Mac Pro, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

What are your cache, media cache database, and file storage for that media? You can be having some serious "transport" going on with that media of course. And cache locations, media drive connections and folder practices can have effects.

Thanks for your reply.

The cache and database are all set up within the same location as the project folder. We often work from Thunderbolt 3 drives, but have been working directly from the machines to see if this helps, with no luck.

Our supplier has told us this is a bug within Adobe Premiere and the 2019 Mac Pro not working with Sony RAW footage, but I find this hard to believe - do you know anything about this?

Cheers

Total PC person here, so not much experienced in Mac and media issues.

But there are a ton of Macs running Premiere, and the Sony MXF files are everywhere. So I'd think there are others working with Sony MXF files on that kit, there pretty much has to be.

@Kevin-Monahan  Mr. Mac ... do you have any thoughts here?
