Premiere keeps freezing on playback

Hey forum,

I've gone through a tonne of discussions on here and can't seem to find a fix for my problem, so if anyone has any suggestions that would be so helpful!

I've been having problems with Premiere on my new PC where playback will either freeze on screen, or flick to media pending, and then then Premiere eventually freeze. I am able to save the file, and operate through Premiere for a minute or so before it is not responding. Ending the task, Premiere still remains in the task manager in 'background processes' draining memory.

When trying to clear the Media Cache files after Premiere has been forced to close, the files/frames that it became stuck on cannot be deleted.

Trying to reopen Premiere, results in it being stuck on Initializing Launch. I have to shut down, but then ultimately have to hard reset the computer for it to properly reboot. That solves the trick for a period of time, before it happens again.

Premiere is installed on the system SSD, and footage is running off another internal HDD.The problem exists over both Software only and GPU Accelerated.

I have tried updates to the GPU, and some other random tests I have found through this forum, but I haven't been able to find a solution. All the footage is .mov ProRes footage, shot on the same camera, although a mixture of HD, 3K and 4K. There's a lot of footage, but it is only a single format.

I have been experiencing this problem in 2015.4 (?) and the most recent 2017 update. I have tried a clean install with no luck.

Specs:

i7-6900K CPU @ 3.2Ghz

Windows 10 (14393.447)

RAM 64GB

GEFORCE GTX 1070

Thanks so much for any help! I've really just run out of things to try...

Bryce

The one issue I'm having with my 1070 is that playback stutters whenever the Lumetri Scopes panel is open, even if the panel isn't visible.  With that panel actually closed, everything works fine.

Hmmm I still get stuttering and then "Media pending" and then a crash even with Lumetri closed. It's driving me insane!

Yeah, I'd expect that system to fly.
