Premiere playing audio and NOT video

New Here ,
Aug 21, 2025 Aug 21, 2025

Hello.  I have updated Premiere 25.4.0 and updated Nvidia RTX 4060 drivers.  When I launch a project and try to import video from media browser into Source display or Timeline display, only the audio plays, video monitors are blank.  No black screen, no visual of anykind, just blank.  Media being imported comes from two formats, one (MVI) which loads fine on Windows Media player.  Task Manager seems to show graphics processing is happening in Intel processor and not Nvidia.

Please help figure out how to achieve playback in Premiere.

Hi Adam27510533kzzc,

MVI is not listed as a supported file format for Premiere Pro. You may refer to this link to learn more about supported formats. What is the source of this media, and what is the other media format with which you are experiencing this issue?

Thanks,

Sumeet

It’s possible that Adobe Premiere Pro does not support the video codec used in your media files. When this happens, you may hear the audio but not see the video during playback.

To check the video codec of your file:

  • Open the file in the Source Monitor.
  • Go to File > Get Properties for > Selection.

This will show detailed information about the media file, including the video codec. If the codec is not supported, you may need to transcode the file into a more compatible format using a third-party tool like Shutter Encoder.
