I would really appreciate some help here. I'm a PP newbie, but a FCP editor for over 15 years.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to use preset transitions that I've downloaded in my sequence. I've downloaded the presets and they show up in the Effects browser but I can't drag them in between 2 clips!!! The clips have adequate handles.
When I try to drag them between the two clips in my sequence nothing happens.
I've watched a few tutorials and still nothing works. One tutorial says to make blade cuts between the two clips, nest that area and then drag the the preset transition to the nest.
Another tutorial says to create an adjustment layer!!
You can't possible need to create an adjustment layer or a nest every time you need to add a transition!!!
In FCP you just install the transitions and they show up in your effects panel. Then just drag them to the project edit points. SIMPLE!!!!
Can someone please help me with this? Thanks so much!!
I'm on Premiere 22.0
These presets are in fact not transitions but rather presets made up from effects (Premiere cannot make presets from real transitions).
You need to study the tutorials that come with these presets very carefully.
Some can be very complicated and quite different to apply.
Which ones did you download?
The author of those Effect Presets explained that you need a 15-frame clip instance on each side of center so that you can apply the Effect Preset to the tiny clip instances.
The effects produce a kind of transition, but they are not Pr transitions. They are effects that are applied to clips that simulate transitions.
There is no way to add those Effect Presets as transitions because they are not, well, transitions. 😀

Hi Ann. Thanks for your response. All I'm trying to do is download some very cool transitions to use in Premiere. Something that I can just drag between two clips (like normal transitions). I've watched the tutorials very carefully and followed them step by step with my sequence. I've tried Mixkit, Debrup, and the latest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00vbYIGY3-A&t=19s
Do you have transitions and titles you like?
This shouldn't be so difficult.

Sorry. Missed that you are on a Mac.
I sometimes have Windows tunnel vision.

Thanks Jeff,
I guess I'm looking to purchase or get for free transitions and titles for Premiere, where I don't need to jump through hoops to get them to work. Any thoughts?
Also, it seems that you must download each transition separately and save it in the project you're working on. But what if I want to use some of the transitions and titles on different projects? Isthere a way of saving them in an efects folder within the Premiere APP?

Hey Greg,
I'm an old FCP guy or are you speaking of FCP X?

Sometimes people release "transitions" but they are not coded as such. As Ann and Jeff said, these are "effects" you apply to the outro of one clip and the intro of the next and appear as transitions, but they are technically effects and not transitions and these can live in your Presets folder.
There are few "free" transitions or effects as it requires knowledge of computer coding in C++ to create them, most often. In FCP, you could use both FX Scripting and FXPlug to make coded transitions simply, which proliferated more free stuff for that app. You typically have to purchase anything but these presets, usually.
Free titles can be found if you do a search for the phrase ".mogrt" - there are also a good amount of free mogrt files on the Adobe Stock website. The search bar in app can expose more free options if you type any letter in the search bar. Try it for more freebies.

Purchased effects and transitions will appear in the Effects bin. These downloaded presets should live in your Presets folder and should remain there, so not sure what's going on with your project. We'd need to know more info there. .mogrt files can be saved on your HD or in Libraries for use across multiple projects in either case.
Above all, consult the User Guide. Hope the info helps.
Thanks,
Kevin

I don't use transitions very often, but when I do, I make them myself.

Did you press Enter to render the timeline and turn the red line above the timeline to green?

Somehow pressing enter on my Mac doesn't work for rendering. I need to go into Sequence and render the selection or render in to out.
