Premiere Pro 15.4.1 is now available for download from the Creative Cloud desktop application. This release is recommended for all users.

The August release of Premiere Pro (version 15.4.1) includes a fix for an issue where using edit tools on clips can produce flickering in the Program Monitor.

To update the app open the Creative Cloud desktop application and click the Updates tab on the top-left. Find Premiere Pro in the list and click Update.

This is an "announcement" post. It is not meant for troubleshooting. If you are experiencing any trouble with the release, please create a new post apart from this one. Thank you.

Is Legacy Titler still present in this update?  If so, how much longer will legacy titler be available?  There are still several features in legacy titler not available in Essential Graphics as of version 15.2.0.

Thank You.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for writing. Yes, the Legacy Titler is still present. Any "when" questions cannot be answered here because no one here knows. Those that do can't really say.

If there is some feature missing in Legacy Title, you can make a feature request if you have not already done so. I think that engineering is aware of most of the shortcomings, but on User Voice, if you see your request already there, you can simpy upvote.

I'm so sorry that Legacy Titler was vital for your workflow. I will look for your requests on User Voice. You can place them here so we can upvote if you like.

Thanks,
Kevin

Since the update it is even worse to work with Premiere Pro. Nothing works properly. When loading, not everything appears correctly either. If you want to make something bigger or smaller with the keyboard and mouse wheel, or move something also does not work. If you import a video that is supported into the timeline, it is also not displayed in the preview.
I have to load a finished project every time and replace everything there so that it works.

What could be the reason for this?

TP One,

Sorry, friend! Have you tried File > Close All Projects. Then File > Preferences > Media Cache. Choose the second option to delete ALL media cache. Restart Premiere Pro and the press down Alt/Option key. This resets preferences. When your project opens, choose a Workspace and choose Window > Workspaces > Reset to Saved Layout.

Hopefully these troubleshooting steps help you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin, do you have tips on troubleshooting PP 2021 version I've updated to with it now freezing so easily and then rainbowing causing me to force quit almost on everything?  It's like I can't really do anything like the previous version I was working on with the 2018 version.  I even opened a project up on the 2018 version and everything ran fine with no freezes.  I recently just updated PP version last night and have lost the 2018 version unforutnately with the updating selections it seems I might of chose to remove old versions, which I kick myself because that version was working just fine, now I'm stuck with the 2021 version with freezing program issues and I don't know what to do??

The operating system I'm on is macOS Big Sur version 11.6

Mac Pro (Late 2013)

Processor 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5

Memory 16GB

Graphics AMD FirePro D500 3 GB

Curious if you have any thoughts on why PP 2021 version is giving me these freezing issues and if there can be anything to help fix this??

Why is open Cl gone from renderer options? I can't use my eGPU now because of that, do you have any workarounds?

Hi Jorge,

Sorry about that. The OpenCL option will not supported for future development in macOS to the best of my knowledge. I'm so sorry your hardware won't be as functional going into the future. It's rather one of those things that are out of our control, and I apologize for that. You can let the devs know how you feel here: Premiere Pro User Voice

The problem is bigger than normal obsolescence dear Kevin, the problem is that with my eGPU connected I get choopy playback , frame rate is not smooth at all and the only way I've found to fix this  is having to disconnect my eGPU when I certainly shouldn't be doing that everytime I use premiere pro because I need to use  other software where that additional power is essential. I refuse to do that every single time. It is certainly Adobe's responsability to look into this and fix it, because although the program no longer supports open cl, playback shouldn't be choppy only because I have an eGPU connected, it's like you're saying to me I cannot use the new Premiere Pro unless I have a new computer with an M1 chip which would certainly be ridiculous.

Hi Jorge,

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure because I don't know anything about your equipment or workflow. All I know is that your eGPU doesn't work now. Does your computer meet system requirements? Tell me more about your system and media you are using and I hope I can help. I cannot help with the OpenCL deprecation as I am just here for troubleshooting and support, I don't make decisions about the app. You need to file a bug on User Voice for that. I can break out your thread to its own post if you would like me to.

Thanks,
Kevin

Yes, I have an iMac Pro 2017 with an 8 core intel Xeon W 3.2 ghz processor, 32 gb of ram and a Radeon Pro Vega 56 with a memort of 8gb (I have another one of these which I use as an eGPU ). I use all kinds of footage, specially sony and alexa .mxf as well as H.264 and Pro Res Transcoded media . Whenever I have the eGPU connected( via thunderbolt 3 port) and GPU Accelerated Metal selected as renderer, I get choppy playback in every clip and timeline regardeless of the format of the footage or if its rendered or not in Premiere Pro . On the previous version of Premiere Pro I just  had to select OpenCL deprecated and the problem was fixed, I got smooth playback . In the current version since there's only metal gpu available I get choppy playback whenever the eGPU is connected. If I disconnect it the problem's gone but as I mentioned I have to work with several programs  that require this eGPU, so I cannot afford to be disconnecting my eGPU everytime I need to work on Premiere Pro.

Hi Jorge,

Do you have a secondary monitor being fed by the iMac? If so, check out this thread for a potential solution. Otherwise, I've heard that Metal and OpenCL are equally performant. If you can, file a bug on User Voice I can point devs to, then place that link here, OK?

Your iMac is now approaching 4 years old, so you might start looking for its replacement that might suit your workflow better to include better H.264 processing. 4 years ago, Xeon processors were OK, but no longer. You want Intel processors which support Quick Sync for your H.264 footage, otherwise, you are not reaping the benefits of hardware acceleration and hardware decoding, which happens on the CPU/iGPU and is not delivered by discrete GPUs.

So, file that bug and I hope to help.

Thanks,
Kevin

It's kind of funny that you mention that about intel xeon processors. If I were to buy the biggest end and most expensive mac pro tomorrow it would actually come with an intel xeon w processor not much unlike the one I have on mine, so no offense intended but I'm a little bit skeptical that the problem is just because my CPU it's obsolete, I mean a lot of very high end studios have that mac pro so I'm inclined to believe that the problem lies with the software. All I need is some way to be able to work with my eGPU plugged in without having that choppy frame rate I completely believe that's not too much to ask.

Hey JorgeA,

I just double checked and it appears that these Xenon processor do not support Intel Quick Sync because they do not have the hardware components the other Intel processors have. Too bad! Xenon processors are very good at computational things and offers more threads than do the standard Intel CPUs. So, it's possible it may outperform those other models using that method of testing, but I'm not certain.

If I were in your situation, I might check with the eGPU manufacturer to see if they might have advice different than from I've already given you (the link, I mean).

Hope we can help you get that hardware going again. In fact, if you want me to move this post to the hardware forum, send me a PM.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin,

I find this post most interesting. Are you saying that Intel Processors with 'Quick Sync' are the only ones you would suggest for Adobe Premiere going forward? I'm considering an AMD Threadripper and so your advice here would be most helpful.

When exporting long clips to H264 by way of media encoder or Premiere, the audio drifts substantially.  The workarounds that have been suggested (chiefly "render and replace") defeat the purposes of the export in my case, since I'm exporting time coded raw interviews. Rendering the whole of my raw footage would devour an uunacceptable amount of hard drive space (and time).

Hi Alpha J,

Thanks for writing in about your workflow problem. Is it possible to record the interview using a hardware device rather than OBS or some software capture scheme? I would look into creating better formatted source footage rather than rely on software for poorly formatted source files. Let me know.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, I have a big or not so big request: please return the rollback to the previous version of the program, in case of deterioration in the stability of Premier. There was such an opportunity before. Now, with each new update, there is a risk of encountering new problems in stability and performance. People work with large and very expensive projects, and so, there will be an opportunity to roll back and complete the project to the end. Can you help bring it to the developers? I consider you one of the best specialists (as well as Ann) with whom you can cooperate. Because if I write one, the developers may not notice my urge for real things. With respect to the Adobe development team.

So when are you going to fix the fact that Premiere Pro is completely broken for M1 Mac users?  We can't even export a video without line skipping, glitchy block madness (you know what I'm talking about because everyone who has an m1 mac has been posting about it) its been months and no fix?  The 15.4.1 update did nothing btw?

Are your system specs up to date? You have an M1 chip but it looks like you
bought that Mac two days ago I would insist on looking into upgrading your
computer. Here's a workaround that will take you an extra hour to implement
into your workflow. If that doesn't work it's probably because you're
incompetent have you tried plugging in your computer? If you have a
legitimate problem that many users are complaining about I'll just start a
new forum thread in a place it doesn't belong and place your reply in there
so no one sees how bad we're doing to fix our bugs. -Adobe

This is all you'll hear from them. Or no response at all. Good luck.

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for writing in. For sure, I agree that exclusive moose should probably make a new post for a problem rather than tack on to an announcement post. However, I think the post should live right here in Premiere Pro land where it belongs. We can probably help.

If that standalone post does not get responded to by the community, the moose might want to try contacting my colleagues here in support.

Regards,
Kevin
