Premiere Pro 2023 slow export times

Help! I have a brand new M1 Mac Studio 32 GB  - exporting a 10 minute timeline of mixed media types (some 4K others) in a 1920x1080 timeline is taking over an hour. The project and media are housed on an 8TB G-RAID Thunderbolt drive. Other exports, say from After Effects are lightning! I have run through diagnostics with Apple and the M1 Studio is running as it should. What is going on? I am working on a feature documentary and need this problem solved, any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Are you on 23.0 or 23.1? I would try 23.0. DNG files are not supported, but it looks like you created proxies. How did you create those?

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks Kevin, I have a work-around...when I have some time this weekend, I will detail it - definitely had to do with the DNG files...appreciate your help!

Hi Geoffrey,

Sorry. I think we need more info. This may have to do with the scaling from 4K to HD. When you export the full 4K in a 4K timeline, it might be faster. You could also be working with media that has not been optimized. What is your media, and which camera shot the footage?

The other thing to try is inspecting the Timeline for GPU-accelerated effects. Do you have a lot of them, like Lumetri Color effects? Do you have a lot of Adjustment Layers? Troubleshooting and maintenance can also help. Have you tried anything like trashing preferences or deleting all Media Cache Preferences? Let us know.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for responding so quickly,

The footage was shot on a number of different cameras. iPhone (4K), a Blackmagic camera of some kind (.dng files 2400x1350), an Insta 360 and some DSLR footage. Some colour effects but nothing serious. The thing is, before I upgraded to 2023, exports were fine. I will try the other things you recommended and get back to you.

Thanks,

Geoff

Geoff,

One tip that may help is to choose File > Close All Projects before going to Preferences > Media Cache. That way, you can delete the current media cache too, which is usually the problem. That option is disabled unless all projects are closed.

Good luck and let us know.

Kevin
