Premiere Pro 2025 Crashes + Bluescreens ("DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL")

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing constant crashes in Adobe Premiere Pro 2025 and recurring BSODs (Blue Screens of Death) on my high-end PC, even after extensive troubleshooting. The main crash issue in Premiere Pro seems to be related to "mc_dec_hevc.dll," which suggests a possible HEVC codec issue. However, now I’m also getting random BSODs, making me suspect a deeper driver or system-level issue.

System Specs:

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro (Version 10.0.26100)
  • CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K
  • RAM: 128 GB
  • Storage: 3.6 TB SSD
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 (Studio Driver 572.16 – Jan 30, 2025)
  • Monitors: 2x Samsung C49RG9x (2560x1440 @ 100Hz)
  •

Issue #1: Premiere Pro 2025 Crashing (mc_dec_hevc.dll Error)

Premiere Pro 2025 (Version 25.1.0.73) crashes immediately when GPU acceleration is enabled. Disabling hardware acceleration temporarily stopped crashes, but the software is much slower.

Crash Log:

Faulting application name: Adobe Premiere Pro.exe, Version: 25.1.0.73

Faulting module name: mc_dec_hevc.dll, Version: 13.2.0.18471

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Faulting module path: C:\Users\Public\Documents\AdobeInstalledCodecsTier2\4.0\mc_dec_hevc.dll

This suggests that the HEVC codec or GPU decoding may be causing issues.

Issue #2: Recurring BSODs ("DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL")

Recently, my system started crashing with BSODs, even outside of Premiere Pro. The error message points to a driver issue:

🛑 Stop Code: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

This typically indicates an issue with GPU drivers, memory, or system stability.

What I've Tried So Far:

✅ Updated GPU drivers (NVIDIA Studio Driver 572.16 – Jan 30, 2025)
✅ Ran MemTest86 – No RAM errors detected
✅ Disabled GPU acceleration in Premiere Pro – Crashes stopped, but performance is bad
✅ Reinstalled Premiere Pro – No improvement
✅ Ran sfc /scannow & DISM – No corrupted system files
✅ Checked Windows Event Viewer – No clear cause
✅ Windows fully updated

Next Steps & Help Needed:

I’ve run out of ideas. A few questions:

  1. Has anyone experienced Premiere Pro crashes related to mc_dec_hevc.dll?
  2. Are there known compatibility issues between NVIDIA Studio Driver 572.16 and Windows 11 (10.0.26100)?
  3. Would downgrading to an older GPU driver (e.g., from Dec 2024) help?
  4. Could a faulty HEVC codec be causing this, and if so, how can I repair or reinstall it?
  5. Is my BSOD related to Premiere Pro crashes, or is it a separate system issue?

I’d really appreciate any insights! If you need crash dumps, Event Viewer logs, or other details, let me know.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

Hi @George3558468162jn -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. I see your crash report thank you for submitting.

Are these crashes happening when you export a file?

I'm sure you were aware of the raptor lake intel stability issues, but want to confirm that you have updated to the latest bios settings.

Sorry for the frustration.

Does the hvec video play outside of Premiere ok? If not maybe add it to your operating system for playback and re-check Premiere.
