Premiere Pro CC 2019 Frozen Playback

So with the latest version of Premiere Pro, I've had the issue of video playback in my timeline and in the source playback. I've tried a number of methods to optimize Premiere pro, from clearing cache to changing playback resolution. This is an issue I've never had until updating to the most recent version of Premiere Pro. No matter what I do the moment I begin playback on a clip I might get at the most 10 seconds before the frame freezes and the audio continues. Never mind trying to scrub through clips at 2x or higher speeds, I can't even get playback at normal speeds. I'm currently working on MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports), 2 ghz Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB 1867 MHz memory. Which I understand isn't the latest and greatest of laptops/desktops to be editing on but not to the degree of playback issue that I'm currently having. Any tips or fixes are greatly appreciated. Any chance this is a bug that Adobe needs to fix?

Move all your video files to a different folder.

I had all my clips in the Downloads folder. Worked fine when I was working on the project to begin with. They stopped working when I next launched Premiere.

Created a new folder elsewhere, dragged and dropped my files into it, files automatically reloaded in Premiere. Now works fine.

I'm having the same stupid issue! I'm using a PC. After the update, everything, all old footage, froze. Adding new footage worked just fine. I may have to start the project over again. Is there anyway to contact adobe and tell them their update screwed us over? XD

Same thing happening to me on a top spec 15" MBP 2017 - no problems until the recent update.

As per others comments, I moved the files to a new folder. There wasn't an immediate effect, but went away for a few mins, came back & now the editing is lightening. 4k 8bit files - way faster scrolling than on old versions of PP - it's almost like the footage has been proxied.

So in summary. Painfully slow for about 10 minutes. Fiing apple wheel going nutty. Now super quick. Anyone else had this?

thanks for your feedback. I also moved the files to a different folder and it seemed to work around this issue of frozen playback. Which is very annoying to do and isn't a fix. You're on a mac, I'm on a pc, so I don't think it's an OS issue?

this problem is also driving me nuts. Happened as soon as I updated to newest version (13.1.2), so I reverted back to ver. 13.1 and it seemed to fix the problem. This morning I fire up Premiere and same issue (still using ver. 13.1). Proxies don't work, 1/4 resolution playback doesn't work, tinkering with other settings don't work, and I've never had this issue before.

I ended up closing and restarting PP and now it seems to run as usual without hiccups. So just what the heck is going on? This was never an issue until the latest update was installed a few days ago.

I had the same issue after the latest update (13.1.1). I rolled back to version 13.1.0 and everything works fine again.

I was having the same issue today. after a long time of stumbling around I finally fixed the issue. I couldn't import the same video files into other projects, but if i copied the same file into another folder everything ran smoothly, so I ended up changing the folder name where the footage was stored and then relinked it in premiere. everything went back to normal.

Not sure why this works, but it does. Moving my footage into a new folder and re-linking it solved my jittery playback issues (using 13.1.1).

Thanks MattDuerr

After a grueling hour of testing diff projects (some play smoothly, some does not) ... I renamed the folder, and forced relinking of the files. AND IT WORKS [ for me in my case ]

Thank you so much for sharing..

I am having the same issue and everything was working fine two weeks ago. Not sure if Windows updates screwed things up or what because nothing has changed besides that.

1) In the lower part of the Program panel it lowers the playback resolution even to 1/2 or 1/4.

2) Change the Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration, maybe you have it set to "Software Only" and you have to change it to Metal, CUDA or OpenGL.

3) Verify that the drivers of your GPU are updated.

Same issues here. For me, all videos stop loading/playing on mac all together. Finder, YouTube, etc....

Have to restart to get playback back to normal. No Answers yet.
