Question

Premiere Pro CC / User Settings & Preferences

I open a lot of Premiere Pro Project Files over the course of a day. We work with a lot of outside editors/collaborators; who are working on their own computers, with their own settings and preferences. Every time I open another editors Premiere Pro file, it brings along their their settings and preferences.

I'd like to be able to open any Premiere Pro project and it default to using the settings/preferences on my computer. As of right now, I'm using CC settings and syncing every-time I open the application... which doesn't always seem to work and takes a lot of extra time.

Ideally I'd like to open a Project File and see each of the following settings, set and ready to go for me:

  • Window Layout
  • Button Editor
  • Overlay Settings
  • Preset Effects
  • Keyboard Shortcuts

If anyone has a solution for this, or some insight into how Premiere Pro handles this operation, I would greatly appreciate it!

Figured it out!

Premiere Pro, by default, will save any workspaces that are opened in the application to the "WorkspaceConfig.xml" file in the "Layouts" folding in your Premiere Pro preferences. If you'd like to stop this action - you have to "Lock" the folder in the Finder settings.

This way, when you open any file, it just opens just your workspaces. So great!

I wouldn't recommend that method as it prevents you from changing things when you want to.

Better to uncheck the option to Import the workspace when opening the project.

Well the "import workspace" option in the "windows" panel, saves the information to the actual workspace, which then saves to the internal Project File. So I would have to remember to uncheck that option, every time I open another editors Project File.

Locking the "workspaceconfig" also gets rid of the default Premiere Pro workspaces, which I never even use. Besides, you can always change your workspaces, by unlocking the file and saving.

Working this way for the last few hours has been great, I'll just have to see if any bugs come up

The Window Layout is part of the Project file, and that can be turned off.

But that's the only setting that comes with the project.  Everything else is User Account based.  So long as you open the project with your User Account, you'll see your settings.

Oh great! Do you know how can I turn off the Window Layout?

Also is "User Account" different from my "Creative Cloud Account"

I think the setting to Import Window Layout is under the Window menu.

The two accounts are the same thing.

You could trash the preferences upon launch by holding down Shift+Alt (Windows) or Shift+Option (Mac) before double-clicking on the project file to open it! Hold down Shift+Alt/Shift+Opt until Premiere asks if you want to trash your preferences. Say yes!

Let me know if this works! I'm curious.

If I hold Shift+Option (Mac), it will not trash the preferences or delete the workspaces in the Project File.

Also I'm realizing it's adding the other editors Workspaces into my computer's default Workspaces... somewhere in the background. On the left is the Premiere Pro presets, before opening another random Project File.

As you can see it has the same number of items, but increases in file size.
