Premiere Pro crashing on launch

Since a few days ago, Premiere Pro has been crashing on launch. It opens to the splash page and then crashes before the full program opens. The specific process it crashes on changes every time. After about 10 seconds, the Error Report window appears, and when I close that window it closes the program. All other processes run completely fine during this time.

What I've tried so far:

  • Installed latest Windows update
  • Installed latest graphics driver (NVIDIA Studio Driver 537.58)
  • Updated Creative Cloud
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere Pro (3 times)
  • Updated Premiere Pro (to Premiere Pro 2024 when it became available - issues started before update)
  • Installed previous version of Premiere Pro
  • Cleared media cache
  • Reset preferences
  • Reset plugin loading cache
  • Disabled third-party plugins on launch
  • Moved plugins from their folder on C:
  • Uninstalled any apps I'd installed since Premiere Pro last worked (EA app and Sims 4 if that's helpful)

I've also reinstalled (and now updated) After Effects to make sure none of the plug-ins were causing issues there.

Not sure what else to do other than take it to a computer repair shop but wanted to post here first to see if anyone had a solution.

My computer specs:

Dell XPS 17 9710

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz
Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.7 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 22H2

Does anyone else have any solutions here? I've tried everything the original poster did and I tried disabling the GPU as someone suggested and that did not work. I literally cannot open Premiere Pro anymore. PP v14 was working.. but 2023, 2024 and 2025 (and beta builds) all crash on open. I backed up my hard drive before removing v14 so I can go back to that if I have to but seems ridiculous anything newer won't even open.

Here are my specs:

Windows Home Edition 10.0.19045 Build 19045 (64 bit)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080

AMD Risen 5 1600 Six-Core Processor, 3593 Mhz

32 GB RAM

I know some of my components are a bit older but it’s all within the system requirements Adobe lists. When I run the Adobe Creative Cloud Diagnostic app it says there are no compatibility issues.

Any help would be appreciated! I’m running out of things to try!

@Eccentric_mindset7712 Hold down Shift and then launch Premiere Pro. Do you see the Reset Options Dialog? If you do, try checking the two options "Reset plugin loading cache" and "Disable third-party plugins" then click Continue. Does that work?

Hi Matt! Yes I tried this several times without much luck. I ended up doing a clean reinstall of windows (wiping all data) from a recovery boot drive and then re-installed Adobe on the fresh OS and then it worked....

Has anyone figured this out?  I see no resolution to this issue and I'm crashing so much, I can't work.  I can't export, I crash after working for alike ten mintues.  I've reboot my computer like 18 times today.  HELP.

Disable Graphics Driver

Maybe it sounds weird, but this is a working fix and numerous users claim it is the one that resolves their crashing and freezing error on Premiere Pro.

Here is the process to disable your Graphics Driver on Windows:

  • Right-click on the Windows icon.
  • Choose Device Manager.

  • Expand Display adapters.
  • Right-click on your Graphics Card.
  • Select Disable device.

  • Click on Yes when prompted.
  • Relaunch your project on Adobe.

Although this procedure seems insufficient, it can solve your crash issue. And when your Premiere Pro starts to work like a charm, you can Enable the Graphics Card once again by navigating through the reverse process.

I am crashing like CRAZY. It crashes upon opening. It crashes when I'm in the middle of export settings to AME, it crashes if I click on a clip segment to edit the effects. It crashes when I click on a dialogue segment to edit the text. It crashes if I look at it funny. It crashes if I sing it's praises. It crashes before I even turn on my computer. It's now literally the most unstable program I've ever used.

Same here. I have to restart my computer just to export 15 sec o footage. Haven't been able to get any work completed since I updated the software. At first I thought it was my computer and tried everything, but it's only Premiere Pro. Help!

Hello! Just woke up with the automatic update to Pr 2024 already done and it keeps crashing while i'm working. after about 1-2 mins, it just suddenly closes. Never got any problem with it, but i guess it needs another update.

@Manon231187626723 That's very strange, thank you for being so thorough. When it crashes, do you get a dialog to submit your crash to Adobe? If so can you please include your email in the email field and let me know which email that is? I can then search our database for it and maybe learn more from your crash log. Feel free to DM me here on the forums.

Same thing is happening to me. I usually run Premiere Pro 2024 on Mac, and it´s mostly perfect, but on Windows 11 is a real nightmare! Only old version 2023 runs 80 percent of the time, but newer files are not compatible. I am desperate.
