I am having issues with Premiere Pro 2022 outputting video through my Black Magic Ultra Studio. I am on a new MacStudio running Montery OS. My BMD software and firmware are up to date and the I/O works fine with AVID and Resolve. Audio does come out through the device just not picture.
After several hours, 3 to be exact,on the phone with Adobe it was the BMD support person who solved the problem. Premiere needs to be installed first and then BMD software second or it won't see the Application and install the appropriate drivers. I would have though Adobe would know about this.
If you don't see "Blackmagic Playback" in that list, BMD's drivers are not successfully installed.

That I've seen before and it had to do with matching the refresh rate of the monitor to the sequence and capabilities of the card. So for that user, it took running down the correct settings in the BM controls, the right sequence frame-rates in Premiere or something.

fwiw, I've found blackmagic drivers and instructions sometimes problematic... On the mac, I often find a uninstall and reinstall and sometimes multiple computer restarts will solve the problem. And check the blackmagic control panel in system preferences to make sure it's recognizing the device and you may need to tweak those controls to match Premiere's settings...

I am having this same problem with my MacStudio, Premiere and the UltraStudio. Premiere was installed first, then the BMD Desktop Software. When I enable Mercury Transmit in the Settings/Playback I have 2 monitors to choose from but it doesn't have the UltraStudio as one of them. Display 1 is the Thunderbolt monitor and Display 2 is the HDMI monitor.
Any suggestions on how I might get the Ultrastudio to work with Premiere (could the instructions be reversed above i.e. install BMD app first then Premiere?

Have you checked the BMD control panel in your mac system preferences? I remember needing to tweak that to get it to work.

Thanks for the suggestion Michael. I poked around the settings in the control panel and I can change up the options for the UtlraStudio but it doesn't help in making the option available in Premiere. I think the main issue is that the Premiere/Settings/Playback doesn't show the UltraStudio as an option. Premiere doesn't appear to see it in this window. I does, however, see it in the audio device window.
Are you working on a MacStudio? I have had this feature working in the past on iMac's and Adobe products on the PC but I can't seem to get it to work in this latest version of Premiere, on my MacStudio with Ventura 13.1 OS. You would think Premiere would list it as an option in those playback settings.

I tried uninstalling premiere and re-installing but it still fails to see the Ultrastudio as an option for output.

Same problem but no luck with install order. Works great with Resolve not Premiere.

tpot, Never easy to troubleshoot premiere problems from a distance so please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card and if you have any 3rd party plugins installed for Premiere...

Hi Michael,
iMac
3.6 GHz 10-Core Intel Core i9
AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 GB
128 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
14.3.1 (23D60)
Black Magic Design Ultra Studio Monitor 3G Driver install 12.8 Also tried uninstalling and every version from 12.2.2 Version 12.3
Tried every version of Adobe Premiere Pro 2020, 2021,2022,2023 and 2024 Removed Premiere and reinstalled only a clean install of Premiere Pro 2024 first and then the BMD driver 12.8.
Flanders DM240 Monitor sees every scan rate when I select them in the driver panel and also shows up Via HDMI on my Atmos Ninja. Resolve works fine at 1080 24 P so it’s not a frame rate or frame size issue with the monitor.
Premiere sees the IO
Also tried my laptop. Same results

@Bruce Bullis might know who/what to do next.
I work for/with/teach pro colorists, so I do work with Resolve a lot, have for years. And of course am constantly in such discussions both here, and on LGG and the BM forums.
BM is an interesting company. Their profit model is useful to note: they use Resolve as a loss-leader to get you into their hardware ... but much of their hardware, like their editing keyboard and control panels ... only work with Resolve. Because they want you in that ecosystem.
They are not shall we say, overly supportive, perhaps? ... of the use of their kit in other software. Many folk do have troubles using BM kit to get a signal from Premiere ... typically, say one framerate/size combo works, another doesn't, in Premiere, but they all do in Resolve.
That said, most of the users I know of that do get playback "elsewhere" have been running a Decklink card. You're running that most wonderful Flanders ... have you checked with Bram about what he recommends using in Premiere?

Confirm you have the latest BMD drivers, and (if the problem persists) contact BMD support. We have lots of successful Flanders & UltraStudio users.

I'm running the latest Premiere Pro on a MacStudio with a BMD UltraStudio and Premiere Pro will not output the picture through the UltraStudio. All drivers are up to date. I do not think it is a BMD issue but rather Premiere.
In Premiere it sees the UltraStudio3G in settings/audio hardware. Permiere routes the audio through the Ultrastudio.
In Premiere in settings/Playback there is no reference to the UltraStudio. On previous mac's I have enabled "Mercury Transmit" and that would output the picture through to the BMD device. It does not do that now.

Me too! Works here.

BMD's driver isn't specific to the UltraStudio; it just says "Blackmagic Playback". Their default installation installs a Transmit plugin, which shows up like so; do you see that option?

Thank you for your response Bruce! I have installed the latest Desktop Video from BMD. I can now see the Blackmagic Playback entry and I have attached image of the settings. I still get only audio through the UltraStudio and no picture. The sequence is a 1920x1080 29.97. Resolve functions just fine with the UltraStudio.

I have tracked the output problem down to a difference between two sequences.
If I use the sequence preset to create a HD1080p 29.97 sequence it will not output.
If I use HD1080p 59.94 it will output.
I create bars and tones in each sequence to test.

Thank Bruce. I did see that option and it was working in Resolve Studio but not Premiere. For what it is worth, as of today there is now a 12.8.1 driver install and the problem is no lnger occurring after I deinstalled and then installed 12.8.1

I got mine working. The sequence must match the BMUS output - Framerate and size (1920x1080 for me).
