Premiere Pro fails to save new changes

About two weeks ago Adobe updated my copy of Premiere Pro. Initially, the program seemed to work normally. However, when I opened the program today, it failed to save the changes that I subsequently entered. After I did a Save As, the Premiere Pro workspace simply went blank, and when I reopened the project the program had not only failed to save my latest changes, it had removed all the elements I'd placed on the Timeline, even those I'd placed during earlier editing sessions and saved successfully.

    Hi ronaldf49118024,

    Sorry to hear this. Please let us know the exact version number for Premiere Pro that you are using (FAQ: How to find the exact version of Premiere Pro you're using?). Please open the project and select any of the default workspace (like Editing workspace). If the workspace is still blank then try to reset the workspace (Window>Workspaces>Reset to Saved Layout). Once you have the panels restored, check if you have your sequence listed in the Project panel. If you find your sequence listed, then double click on it to load it on the timeline and check if you see the timeline content.

    Thanks for your prompt response. The version I’m using is 12.1.2 (Build 69). After I make changes and click Save As, the entire Premiere Pro window goes blank. No workspace panes at all are displayed, so none can be selected. Moreover, the Reset to Saved Layout option is grayed out. In fact, all but the bottom two items in the Window menu are grayed out. If I then reopen the project, I find that all the items I’ve previously placed in the Project workspace are still there, but none of the elements I’ve placed in the Timeline workspace are there, not even those that were there in a copy of the file that I’d saved several days ago. I hope you can help me resolve this problem, as Premiere is useless to me as matters stand.

    It's correct 13.1.2 is the current version.

    (Yours is the 2018 software 2019 has been out for awhile now.)

    You can uninstall then reinstall the Creative Cloud App (the Adobe downloading software) if you think you are not using the most recent version. Then with the newest version download the more recent Premiere pro.

    My copy of the Creative Cloud desktop app is up to date, but it does not offer me Premiere Pro 13.1.2 as a download/install option. In fact, the latest version that Creative Cloud offers me is 12.1.1. This evening I check Adobe Forums and found many complaints about the “buggy” Version 13.1.2, so perhaps Adobe has pulled it as a download/install option in response to user feedback. If so, that will be the one intelligent thing I’ve seen Adobe do lately.

    On Friday, I found that Premiere Pro would behave correctly if I use Save exclusively when saving my work and avoid Save As. Following that method, was making good progress on my current project until I forgot late tonight and preformed as Save As, after which everything that was on my Timeline disappeared. I’ve tried all the suggestions I’ve received in an effort to correct the problem, but none of these strategies made any differences. I than opened the Premiere Pro Auto-Save folder, where I found that the most recent Auto-Save file for the project in question was about three hours old. So unless I can find some way to recover the contents of the Timeline, I’ve lost three hours of extremely tedious, detailed changes.

    At this point, I’m extremely disgusted with the way Adobe is doing business, and if I had any good alternative I’d certainly ditch all my Adobe apps. First Adobe forced me to abandon an older version of Premiere Pro that was working just fine. Then, when I encountered problems with the version that I was updated to, I obtained no useful help in resolving the performance defects of Version 12.1.2. To make matters even worse, the new version can’t make use of the Dolby audio that all my video files use. I’ve been employing a workaround that entails importing the my camera’s video output into Premiere Pro, using third-party software to convert each file into another file format, importing that copy into Premiere Pro, placing it on the Timeline, delinking its audio from its video, deleting the audio, and then mating audio to the original video sequence.

    This is obviously a far from satisfactory procedure, but at the moment it’s the best alternative I’ve been able to come up with. The upshot of all Adobe has put me through over the past few weeks is that I’m extremely frustrated and disgusted with its business practices. Apparently, despite its history of producing excellent products, Adobe seems to have metastasized into one of those corporations that feels free to treat its captive user base with high-handed insensitivity bordering on outright contempt I can only hope that you or someone else at Adobe Forums can suggest a workable solution to my problem.
