Premiere Pro Freezes PC then black screens and comes back with black video in premiere pro. It's happened to me on windows 10 and 11, different drivers, updated premiere pro

5600x, 3060ti, 32gb ram

I'm not sure how to fix

I'm actually pleased to find I'm not the only one with this issue. I thought my system had bad RAM so the system occasionally froze, nurns out it's a software problem. I edit on two systems

1. AMD 5950X + RTX 3090 + 64GB  RAM + W10 + latest Premiere version

2. AMD 3950X + RTX 2080 S + 128GB RAM + W10 + latest Premiere version

The freeze + black window Premiere issue keeps happening on the system #2, it happens consistently every hour or two. Super annoying. Has not yet happened on the system #1. Im not even using any heavy effects, just basic 4K HEVC editing and fonts.

I recently discovered magical little piece of software called NVCleanstall. Google it, do your research on the proper tweaks to make, thank me later. If it's an Nvidia driver issue, you'll be very happy you saw this response.

Also having this issue. Both on "stable" Premiere pro and the latest beta.

Windows 11

GeForce RTX 2070 super (october 23 studio drivers)

64gb ram

Forces me to close premiere and reopen it to get it playing video again.

I've got the same problem with Windows 10 and the same GPU (3060ti)

I've been having this issue ever since installing Windows 11. I figured it was because my old computer wasn't technically compatible with Windows 11. So I went out and got a brand new computer. $6500 computer. Threadripper, 24-core processor. Brand new Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 graphics card, Liquid cooling, 64GB of Ram, SSD C drive. I keep ALL my Adobe software up to date, I keep my graphics driver fully up to date. I keep ALL my software and drivers and everything up to date and do regular system maintenance and everything. STILL this issue has been going on since last summer. Through multiple windows system updates, through multiple releases of Nvidia drivers, through multiple releases of Adobe software. I'll fire up Premiere and suddenly my cursor will just freeze. Everything on my displays will freeze in their tracks. Then after a minute everything goes black, then suddenly will restore. Sometimes everything will fully restore but I'll have to restart premiere as my playback monitor goes blackout, or when it recovers everything will be stuffed into one of my small screens and I'll have to reboot the entire system. (To clarify, I have 4 monitors connected. I have been figuring that that's maybe the issue, that having multiple monitors was overwhelming my graphics card. But then why is it that I have had these same 4 monitors connected for years now, and never had this issue when I was running windows 10 with a 2080 graphics card?) I've come to accept it just being something that happens every so often. For all the troubleshooting I have done I've come up with nothing. All I can do is pray that someday there's an update from somewhere that magically fixes the issue. At some point I'm planning on upgrading to a 4090 now that the market has begun to level out as far as graphics card availability. So who knows, maybe that ends up fixing this issue. I noticed specificially in my own case that it seems to have started right when I updated to Windows 11. Could be a huge coincedence, I don't really know.

Try a clean installation of the 517.40 Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver)

517.40 is an older driver. Is that when everything went sideways? After that release there was a bug that has yet to be fixed?

I am still experiencing this issue with no current fix, it's interfering rather severely with my current projects, Windows 10, with both 2021 and 2022, different drivers, 5900X, 3080, 64GB Ram.
I'm really hoping there's a fix to this soon.

Hi there!

Sorry to hear that. Could you check if there's an updated version available for your GPU? Does it happen with a specific project?

Have you tried deleting cache files

Let us know.

Thanks,

Kartika

Hello, Kartika.

Deleting cache files is always taken as a basis for me before each project. Like our Father.

Support service, pay attention to this. I also faced a similar problem. While working on the timeline, the screen fades and the video is not displayed in the program monitor. The sound is there. It is treated only by restarting the Premiere application. Observed in the latest update. Before that, I had not experienced such a problem.
