Premiere Pro hides the file explorer any time I try to "Save As" anything

My System:

Windows 10 64 -bit

Intel Core i7-6800K

32GB DDR4 Ram

Nvidea 1070GTX

Audio: Studio 192

Premiere Pro V13.1.4 (Build2)

Monitors:

1: PA279Q  (2560 x 1440)

2: PA24Q (1920 x1200)

Hey Guys

This has plagued me for years... Basically any time I ask premiere pro to interact with file explorer (so "Save As") it can do this (see video).  It's like file explorer is behind the program, or offscreen and no matter where I click I can't get the program to respond.  Can't push escape and have tried resizing monitors to see if a window appears and nothing works.  It's basically pot luck as to wheather or not this bug happens.  If it does happen then my only resort is to go to task manager and forcre close premiere and try again.  Happens about 30% of the time and has been going on for AGES!  I always save b4 I go to export anything.

The bug isn't just restricted to exporting files.  Can happen when I choose a place to save for an AAF file export or any other type of export where I have to choose a file save location.  PLEASE HELP!

I've been having this issue as well and it makes me want to throw my computer out of the window. It is killing my workflow and I'm so sick of losing time to this infuriating bug. Adobe, do something.

If I go to the export screen, click the hypertext to choose my save location, file explorer does not appear and the mentioned issue begins. From here, I can alt+tab then enter to choose Adobe in my list of open programs, and press tab until I get down to the "send to media encoder" option. At that point, Media Encoder opens and I can export my program. However... If I tab over to the "export" option, the file explorer appears, I can choose my save location, and when I click save, the file explorer closes, and then another file explorer appears from the initial time I clicked export.

Hey Dan,
Sorry about this. Try this.

  1. Choose File > Project Settings and choose Software Only for GPU Acceleration.
  2. Choose a different volume to export to.
  3. Check to see if you can export to that volume.
  4. If you can, feel free to cancel the export.
  5. Change the Project Settings back to GPU acceleration.
  6. See if you can export with GPU acceleration once more.
  7. Repair folder permissions and make sure they are set to R/W on the previous folder you tried to export to.

I really hope this helps. If you don't get back up an running after these steps, report back and/or file a case with assisted support (call/chat) here: https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html

Thank You,
Kevin

Hi Kevin

Thanks for your response.  I've tried those steps and it's possible it's worked, but I doubt it.  This has been an issue with me for years and sometimes it illudes me for a few weeks and then all of a sudden it does it, usually just when I've got out of the habbit of saving right b4 export so I lose the last 5 minutes of work. 😞

All permissions are fine as far as I know. Have tried switching to "software only" and back to GPU (but that seems a bit of a long shot).  Pretty sure selecting another drive won't / can't help as when I select the option to save is when I lose the window, so there's no way of selecting a new drive.

Anyway I will report back.  On the computer editing today and tomorrow, so will let you know.

Thanks

Dan

This also happens if you close down the secondary (left) screen and drag the Media Encoder prompt over to your main screen (right)?

Correct. Tried closing program monitor then attempting to select file location (with premiere open on just one monitor) and still get the same error. Hard to test as it doesn't happen every time.
