I've been using Premiere Pro for years and recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to a M1 Max with 32GB of memory.
I’ve always has some sort of lag issues with Premiere, but expected this system to handle things a bit better.
I find that Premiere works silky smooth, but after an hour, it starts to slow down. Despite working off medium-quality ProRes 422 Proxy format, I experience lag when scrubbing the timeline and moving clips.
Oddly, my iStats indicate low CPU, GPU, and memory usage, with about 800GB of SSD space free for cache.
The only solution I’ve found is to close the project → Preferences → Clear Cache (Req Restart) → Re-open Premiere. Which is a bit annoying to do after every hour!
Has anyone improved performance on similar specs?
Thanks in advance.

Are any third-party plugins installed?

Hey Joseph,
Sorry for the poor experience. Please let us know which version of Premiere Pro you're currently using (Help > About Premiere Pro). What happens if you close and reopen your current sequence? Does that temporarily fix the playback issue?
Thanks,
Ishan

Do you have external motiors attached? If so how? Does issue happen also when you work just on your laptop, with no extra screen attached?
