Premiere Pro player error 76

Hi everyone, I've been working on a project recently on my PC and wanted to continue it at my desk hooked up to a new monitor in extended mode, but every time I hit CTRL` to play it in full screen on my desk monitor, I get the error code 76, which then prevents playback until I restart the application. Playing it on the PC's internal display does not produce this issue. It is very annoying, as it defeats the purpose of having my PC hooked up to a larger monitor. I've looked around and tried different recommendations from other discussions, but could not find a working solution to my issue. The only two things I did not do were performing a reinstall of Premiere Pro, and deleting all previews, as I have a fast-approaching deadline right now and do not want to have to wait several hours or more just rendering what I have already rendered in the past few weeks. Are there any other suggestions that might work to resolve this issue before I resort to trying the above steps I mentioned above? I don't want to have to follow through with that and spend so much unnecessary time waiting only to be disappointed by the uncertainty of those two methods not working. Thank you very much in advance!

My specs are:

PC: Intel Core i7 8650u with 32GB ram and Nvidia Quadro M620, 4K built-in display, Windows 10 Pro 1809 and the latest version of Premiere Pro (13.+).

Display: 27in DELL 4K

And you can't connect without that T-bolt to Displayport converter.

I'm wondering if that one cable or something in the internal operation of that box is the issue.

Is there another cable even if shorter, or maybe especially shorter, that you could test with?

I think I found a workaround: Make the external display the primary display. In this mode, I have no issues with CTRL`. but I really hope there is an actual solution. I take my PC around to various venues for presentation of my projects, so I don't want to have to keep changing the projection mode just to avoid having a projector in an auditorium defaulting to the primary display and showing off more than I intend to.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance, Neil! I really appreciate it! Perhaps we could keep this thread going just for the sake of solving the issue, as my discovery appears to be only a workaround.

So ... you're going full screen with your UI monitor? Or ... what? I can't tell from your post.

I'm running three monitors currently, using Transmit Out to send a full-screen full time to my UHD BenQ PD2720U.

Thank you for your reply, R Neil Haugen!

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the exact terminology used, but here's my scenario:

I have a PC, which I use to work on my projects. It has its own built-in screen, as it is a portable PC (laptop-like). When I'm not at my desk, I have only one screen. But now I want to connect my PC to my display, which is relatively new, so that I can have two screens to work with and get a larger view of my work. So, I connect my PC to my desk display, set the Windows projection settings to "Extended" so that I can use the PC's internal display along with the desk display in a dual-monitor set up, and open Premiere Pro on my desk display, so that I can see the entire interface on the desk display. The display works really well as a good display should, displaying my work in Premiere Pro's timeline and such. Everything works well until I hit CTRL` to play my project in full screen on the desk display, which give me the error code 76.

I hope this helps clarify what I meant.

As a side note, I've tried to use Premiere Pro's multi-display mode, and it works alright, but that is not what I'm looking for, as I want to see the entire interface on my 27in desk display, and keep my PC's built-in 15in display for other work (such as media management). I want to be able to work on my projects just fine on my 27in display, as I am normally able to do so using only my PC's internal 15in display. Once again, everything works fine, right up until I hit CTRL` in Premiere Pro to enter fullscreen playback mode when I have it open on my desk display.

Ahh, I understand now. Yea, getting more screen real estate is always a Quest, isn't it?

Are you connecting directly to that other monitor?
