Question

Premiere Pro Workspaces STILL not working

This morning I updated to Version 12.1.2 (Build 69) hoping that the problem with my Workspaces would be fixed but it wasn't.

When I arrange my windows the way I like them, I go Workspaces --> Save As New Workspace, title and save it. But when I close Premiere and re-open a project, the windows are not where I saved them. If I go to Workspaces --> and select the new one I just saved, nothing changes!

This was a problem before today's update and continues to be a problem despite this from Adobe's list of Bug Fixes in the new version: "Workspaces save now correctly with the project"

I have been putting up with this issue hoping it would be fixed in the next update but sadly it was not.

Any suggestions?

High Sierra - Version 10.13.5

I finally figured out a fix! Under "Window > Workspaces" Untick "Import Workspace from Projects"... it worked for me anyway.

Well, yes ... you can't expect to keep your workspaces the same if you tell Premiere to always import them from projects. Making sure that is not checked is a basic step to keeping a consistent set of workspaces.

It's hard to believe that complaints about saving workspaces has been going on for THREE YEARS.  Aren't you guys at Adobe reading these posts??  Consider how much time your subscribers waste trying to configure their workspaces with each new project, and sometimes during a project.  You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I've updated to the lasted Adobe Premiere Pro on my Mac Pro and I'm getting similar issues with saving my workspace.  If I make changes to my workspace and save it they will "not" keep when opening a new project.  If I open a project that I've made the workspace changes too they will keep.  It's only when opening a new project that I have to adjust my workspace to my liking.

I've tried all the of the troubleshooting recommendations and I'm still having the same problem with the workspaces. My custom workspaces do not open to the saved positions. The  project panel always goes to the top right position. Regardless of where I save it. Adobe has been no help to me.

Same thing here. I am not able to get back saved workspaces.

It's good to see Adobe is working on the important things...such as creating new message boards. Whew, we could hardly get our work done with the disaster that was the old boards.

I wonder where they'll focus their attention next...

same issue here, the projects bin always goes to the right and top most square/panel.

In these pictures you can see how my premiere starts up, with the project/media panel on the right - and how it should be on the top left. So far no troubleshooting in this thread has worked. Honestly not surprised there hasn't been much or any effort towards this with the amount of other bugs that Premiere has. Going to be paying a visit to my pals over at Blackmagic and Davinci soon enough.

Is there anywhere on this forum where Adobe has acknowledged the bug on their side? I remember reading that somewhere. I really hope they have this on the list so my project panel doesn't keep opening in random places. I open a lot of projects and it becomes a mess.

There were a couple (of the many) threads where it was formally acknowledged by engineers. And is in the list for the next update.

Which we is all awaitin' rather eagerly ...

    Similar problems here.

Latest versions of Premiere and Mojave OS.

Saved workspaces end up jumbled, project panel displays different metadata than what I had set it at, etc. This is enormously frustrating when sitting with a client, stopping to dig around and look for things that aren't where I expect them to be. Once I reset my space the way I want, I can fly around Premiere very productively, but it is super frustrating to have to redo this Every. Single. Time.

personally on the latest OSX and Premiere as of now. I have one workspace that I always use called "main space"

I only recently (last couple months) started having this issue where i would open up a project and my workspace would be jumbled. typically just one panel is combined with another, or in a different spot than i saved it as a few hours/days/minutes previous. resetting to the save layout does nothing. even when i arrange everything back to how I like it, and save changes to the workspace, it will still jumble and mess up. Its not every time but its becoming more and more of a regular thing...

It's an acknowledged issue, and ... hoping for a bug fix for this whenever they release the next patch.

Yawn...we've heard this before. It's been a known issue for nearly a year.

I too can not save a workspace.  I have to rearrange the panels every time I start a new project.  PLEASE correct this. Working on PC Windows 10 all up to date.  Using version 13.1.0 Premiere Pro CC

This is not a "fix" as stated in the FAQ. It's simply a workaround. We still need a fix.

Yup the workspaces still do not work. Seems to be a weirs glitch that affects some users and works properly for others.

I literally came to the forums to follow-up on this issue for 13.1's release. This is really disheartening to hear.

I (like many others) have been trouble maintaining custom workspaces in Premiere, I want to say since roughly the feature to marry workspaces to projects came out. It's been several major builds with this issue. I don't know if the installation of that project-based workspaces feature combined with how preferences are saved in a local vs "cloud" partition in our Preferences folder, but something is failing to work. What I've noticed is:

    • If one of the 'default' workspaces doesn't exist (renamed or deleted), Premiere remakes them upon next load up every time.
    • My "workspace configuration" (if workspaces are in top bar, overflow, hidden) is not saved after closing Premiere.
    • New workspaces that do not have a 'default' name get thrown into overflow next time I boot up Premiere, even if I save it to the top bar.
    • Sometimes, upon loading a project even some workspace related elements don't get restored properly. (ex. some tabs are in the wrong order, or my project bins are in thumbnail view as opposed to list view)

Admittedly I haven't installed 13.1 yet at home (thankfully at work we're still running 9.1 where the issue doesn't exist), so I guess I'll still have to check to see if it definitely isn't fixed. Is everyone else experiencing the same issues?

I have reset preferences, reinstalled Premiere you name it. I even have project-based workspaces turned off. I am just convinced that workspaces do not work anymore, and it really needs to be addressed. I get it, I can still do my work regardless, but it's frustrating to not configure my workspaces the way I want to fit my workflow.

I've no problems with the workspaces on my Win10 machine, though I did for a couple days with last fall's release.

I would suggest using the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool if you haven't already. Use it to do both the uninstall and the removal of all stray bits of Premiere, then reboot your machine. Download/install Pr again. Which is what I did to get rid of the issue last fall. It did take a second application of the CC Cleaner tool. But it takes around 10 minutes to do the whole job.

You might want to go to the User Preferences location/s to copy those files elsewhere on your machine, so you can reinstall custom keyboard layouts and such.

Eh, good advice about the CC Cleaner, but the end result is that the CC 2019 version screwed up Workspaces and hasn't been fixed since the product was released. It's been 6 months and I doubt they'll ever get fixed. It's interesting that you don't have trouble with it, but I can duplicate the problem on four machines, both Windows and Mac, and can duplicate it on a freshly installed and updated CC 2019, so I doubt it's on my end.

The whole CC cleaner uninstall/reinstall/backup/reinstall backups of various preferences files/do it again just to be sure/check to see if it's fixed/do it all over again process is a huge pain in the rear and in my experience has rarely fixed anything. I can't expect any of the non-computer-savvy editors to do this so I have to do it for them.

I've used the CC cleaner tool for other issues in the past and all it does is create an afternoon of downtime and headache. Just like reinstalling Windows or creating a new user account, it's worth a try but I wouldn't expect it to work.

I have been using custom workspaces on both Windows and Mac for years and years through the various CC iterations of the product and they've always worked without a problem after a version upgrade. It's only since the 2019 release that they stopped working.

I regret upgrading to 2019 as it doesn't offer me anything over CC 2018 other than head aches. I won't upgrade to CC 2020 when it's released in the Fall because it probably just adds more fluff and with it, more bugs that never seem to get fixed.
