Question

Premiere search box doesn't show clips that are actually there

I have clips in my project panel that I've renamed to reflect what they are.  When I use the search bar and type part of the new name, nothing comes up.  If I type names of other clips, they show up in the search.  What gives?

ProfessorQ,

Is your issue solved yet? We have not heard from you in a few months. Please give us an update so we can close out this thread.

Thanks,
Kevin

This is a nightmare. Search assets does not work, nor find, nor search bins. Premiere pro is pretty useless for professional editing because of this gitch.

Please fix this

Hi PacoL,

Sorry about this.

  • I noticed that projects can be corrupted by updating them from the 11.x or 12.x version to the 13.x version.
    • Does that sound like your case? Or is this a project originating in 12.x or 13.x?
    • If the project originated in 13.0 and was corrupted by moving to 13.0.1 or 13.0.2, roll back to 13.0.
  • When projects become corrupt, in many cases, one bit of unexpected behavior that seems to occur is the failure to be able to search for clips that previously were searchable.
    • As a test, try to roll back to 13.0 and reopen a copy of the project there.
    • If it originated as a 12.x project, and if you have already done too much work in the 13.x version, note that a FCP XML file can serve as a conduit to bringing current work back to a previous version (in most cases).

Hope we can assist in getting you back up and running.

Thank You,
Kevin

FIX

(this works perfectly for me with no problems)

rollback to previous version

  • Open the Creative Cloud desktop app by clicking the Creative Cloud icon in your taskbar (Windows) or the Apple menu bar (Mac OS). If you aren’t automatically signed in, sign in using your Adobe ID and password.
  • Scroll to the app you want to install.
  • Click the arrow next to Install or Open. Then, click Manage.
  • Click Other Versions.
  • In the list that appears, find the version that you want to install, and then click Install.

Note for Wes: There were no .jpgs loaded in my project...

Reporting the same issue about a faulty search bar but for me as soon as I type anything into the search bar I get zero results (I just see the folders in the same way when there are no search results).

I just rolled back to 13.0 from 13.0.1 and the search function is now working again.

Hello,

We are investigating this issue internally and I have seen at least one case where particular media can cause problems (Jpegs)

There is still more investigation to do and I am happy to lend a hand here.

Does anyone have time to break down a project to isolate the cause or p possibly a small shareable project with media that reproduces this problem?

Wes

Try resetting the preferences:

FAQ: How to reset preferences in Premiere Pro?

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:

Reset a workspace

Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
    • Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.

No dice, same behavior.  I can search all the other clips by typing parts of their names, but not the ones I renamed myself.
