Hey guys, a friend in LA who provides support for other editors called me recently complaining that his premiere had updated without automatically update enabled. He did have CC set for auto update but that shouldn't effect the individual apps should it? I'll copy his email to me in which he details his experience which I said didn't seem likely to me. I imagine we'd see people complaining about this all over the place if this was the case.
He attached some screen grabs showing his settings for auto update and the difference in the splash screens and dock icons. If anyone thinks these are pertinent, I'll post them.
"- I was in PP2020 and working away on Friday and quit and just restarted late afternoon.
Suddenly PP Dock Icon and Splash screen was completely different than what I saw when I launched in the AM.
They do updates! Sneaky but they definitely push out global updates at times no matter what your update settings are.
Everything was fine and I kept working and also worked some hours yesterday. Today I started computer and when I launch the project it is stuck in spinning beach ball mode. I tried various things including earlier versions of project and in the end reastarted the computer from my internal BU drive that was not cloned across recently but has 2020 installed. And... this runs my project with no issues at all.
You can defend it but this def means some form of “micro” updates are happening on relaunch at various times and they may not play nice with the config of the system. In my opinion if I have my settings set to no updates unless I allow it that should be all that happens, period. This is BS as I am 100% sure the thing that changed was the software from Adobe. No Mac updates or other software occurred. I am pretty sure when they QC compatibility they are not using 5,1 Mac pros but how they can do software revs at their discretion and think it’s okay is pretty arrogant. I have seen this before. So yes, back ups are essential, but I am protecting my system primarily from Adobe breaking their own software which is really odd."
