Hi,
This has been going on for a while. My PP crashes (or gets stuck and sometimes requires me to restart the PC) when rendering previews. I tried everything I knew without results.
1. I completely (and I mean completely including dealing with old registry files and manually removing folders) removed and re-installed Adobe Creative Cloud (although it still has issues - loads super slow and needs to relaunch and only in with administrator privileges).
2. I Tried different file files, formats/codecs I don't think it has anything to do with that since it worked before with the same files from the same drive.
3. cleared cache (full).
4. Tried software rendering - still crashes.
5. I have a crash report for PP (you can't attach this format - kind of silly - but I put it on dropbox):

Maybe this will help you help me.
It used to work fine but at some point something broke and I am not sure what. I know I need to re-install Windows and I will be doing that but that is a big project (lots of software, settings, etc. and I am in the middle of projects that I need to finish editing).
My system:
Latest PP.
Win 10 (fully updated).
Intel 13900K
MSI Z790 Ace (fully updated drivers)
All SSDs (Samsung 990/WD 850X)
96GB Ram
GTX 4070 (latest Studio drivers clean install)
Ig

What are your preview settings in the sequence. What format? Are you using the default ProRes?

Where do I find those?
I am not using prores (But I was not using prores before and all worked out fine so something just broke at some point).

Click on the sequence on the timeline, then use the Sequence menu up top and select Sequence Settings:

Hi - thanks - sorry I forgot where it was (I don't play with those settings much).
I changed it from something else tho what you have and it still crashed after rendering the previews for a min or two.

How long is the project and do you have plenty of space on your various hard-drives/ssds?

It's not happening with any particular project it is happening with anything that I try - old/new, short long - it seems to be related mostly to rendering previews (although possibly to other things as well).
I have enough space.

Did you look at the sequence settings?

Didn't we cover that above?

You changed it to what I showed on the screenshot?

Where are your Previews getting saved? You look in the project settings available on the FILE menu.

It's the same as the project (this is on a super fast Samsung 990 drive so I hardly think it is the problem) I have another fast drive that I can use for that but again I don't think it is the problem - the PC ran PP fine before at these exact settings.

You can post screenshots too.
My machine is not that much different than yours, I'm having these problems. So, you have to try different things. And feel free to expand on the suggestions you recieve and post screenshots when appropriate.

Yes, as I wrote - still crashes.

Well, I tried changing the scratch disks to a different drive and got a BSOD (not the first) during the preview render - it's a different message each time so it's not consistently a single error type.
Per other suggestions, I went to test the RAM. I ran memtest86 for about 4 hours - no errors...
Other ideas?

I did - didn't change anything in this respect.
Now I get this error message when rendering previews:

Later trying again the software just got stuck and I had to kill it in task manager twice.

And for those who know how to read dmp files here is another one I just got after a crash.

I also tried PP beta - the sec I pressed render to the video the program crashed.

That is some persistent problem you are having. Do you have any utilities running. GPU software, fan controls, head-up display, frame info, like to see how many frames you're getting in a game. Things you may have running that you could turn off, to try different things.

This happens even when I just turn the PC on and open only PP so it's unrelated to other programs (at least as far as I can tell although it's hard to know as some stuff always runs in the background I guess).
It is important to understand that PP ran just fine until several weeks ago on the same PC which didn't undergo any hardware changes as far as I can tell - this is why I suspect it software not hardware (as I said I ran memtest86 and intel processor diagnostic tool - both came green and the problem seems to happen even when I use software decoding).

Not to disagree but have you been watching the forum? I don't see a lot of problems in this area, so it's not everyone having this issue, or even many... which is what leads to me to think the solution/problem is somewhere on you machine. I keep a pretty good watch on Task Manager / Processes tab. To keep running / autostart programs to a minimum.
I'm interested in the 3rd party app CinemaGrade, but they create a process at computer startup, and if it's not running from startup (at least as far as I can tell) the software won't work in PP with a licensing issue. That has so far kept me from purchasing it. Why they need to have their license manager run at all times, is not something I appreciate.
Get ready! An upgraded Adobe Community experience is coming in January.
