Question

Prevent duplicates from importing premiere pro

Sometimes I work on 2 projects similtaneously and they share some of the same footage. I sometimes copy a sequence from one project and paste it to the other project. Then it brings the source, even though it is already there. It gets so messy that way. Is there a way to ask PP to not import duplicates?

Thanks

Be aware that you can use the command from the Edit menu: "Edit > Consolidate Duplicates" to remove multiple instances or duplicates of the same file from the project panel.

I think you need to switch to Productions mode. Makes a simpler working process.

@R Neil Haugen

Thanks for bringing this feature to my awareness. I didn't know it which sounds crazy considering that I have been working with PP daily for the past 3 years.
Do all of the assests you put in production have to live on a hard drive (internal or external) or does it live on a cloud?

Either or both. It's about the organization of your work into separate folder and project structures within the Production.

Whether the assets are local, network, or cloud is your choice.

I switched to Productions a couple years back, and it's so much better. All my b-roll, sound libraries, graphic assets & such are available to any project for any client I work with. It sets up differently, but wow ... I'd never work in the ancient stand-alone project mode except to test thigns now.

Yes, it's in the Preferences:

Go the top menu, Premiere Pro>Preferences>Media.

Deselect the option “Allow duplicate media during project import” and click “Ok”

@John V Knowles So I have that option deselected and even though I am working on a new project, it is still bringing a clip that is already in my project. I have all of my b-roll already imported in PP. But it is easier for me to scroll through the b-roll in finder than in PP. So I drag the clip into my timeline. But it also creates a duplicate in my Project, which is creating a whole mess. ANy other solution?

Do you mean you're dragging in the b-roll selection from the Finder?
