Preview/Thumbnails not working for JPG images after import

I've been importing JPGs into PremierPro projects for years with no issues. Now all of a sudden, previews/thumbnails are not showing- only black rectangle icons where the preview should be. I used the drag/drop method as I always do. When I double-click on the black icon, the image did appear in the Source monitor.  An Adobe rep was on my machine for 1/2 hour with no remedy and gave up.

In addition, when using the "Import" method on the toolbar (using Adobe's file manager) and navigating to the image folder, it WILL NOT let me go to the folder. The folder is not even visible for selection (???).

I then changed all images to TIFF format, imported them again (drag/drop), and voila - the thumbnails appeared. Is JPG no longer an option? I did not get that memo...

All versions of everything current. WIN10. 64GB Ram

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-clear-your-media-cache-in-30-seconds-in-premiere-pro-2020/m-p/11017257/thread-id/260446?page=1

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-premiere-pro/td-p/8236158?page=1

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver)

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Try resaving them in Photoshop and then reimport them into Premiere Pro.

That did not work. I also tried importing old JPG images that worked in previous PP projects. No joy.

Do you have any unusual characters in the folder path name?

"Truman_APR3_121-HDR". But good lord ... if we have to be that selective with file naming and have to stand on our heads to satisfy the idiosyncrasies of the app, then that's another problem.

I'm using the exact same workflow that I've always used. Today, PP just arbitrarily decided it doesn't like me.
