Problem with vertical proxy files and GPU acceleration (CUDA) Premiere Pro 2019

Hi there,

I'm having an issue when using proxy files for 4k H.246 vertical phone videos. When importing the original files into a session they display correctly, but when viewing the attached proxies files they have been rotated 90 degrees and resized. This problem goes away when using the 'Mercury playback engine software only' option but this pretty much defeats the purpose of using the proxies as the computer is no longer fast enough to keep up with the session. The proxy files themselves and the original video files display as expected in other playback software such as VLC or Windows Media Player.

I've tried installing the most recent Nvidia drivers both game ready and the studio ones, and have also tried various different vertical and horizontal proxy configurations with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated!

PC specs:

Intel i5 6500

Nvidia GTX 1070

16gb DDR4 ram

Windows 10

Premiere Pro CC 2019 13.0.1

Cheers for the replies guys. After looking through some later updates it appeared that the problem had been fixed so I have now upgraded to the most recent and version and am no longer getting the issue.

I have a rule of thumb that applies here.

Always turn your phone on it's side.  Never turn your camera on it's side.

In other words, recorded images, whether still or motion, should always be wider than tall.

Having said that, I do recommend Step 2B below.

Premiere Pro has for some time a problem with video from cell phones and fails to interpret the rotation flags consistently in the footage. The problem has been seen with other cameras as well. I have had projects when the original footage had rotated 180 degrees when i updated from CC2017 to CC2018.

Unfortunately i don´t have any solution. I hope someone else chimes in with a solution or a workaround.

The latest version of Premiere Pro is 13.1.2 so maybe upgrading will solve it, or maybe not...
