Updated Premiere and converted a recent project that I have been working on. A lot of the clips now show up completely black. After playing about with the clips, found that it is being caused by the Lumetri color effect applied to the clips.
To note: this does not happen to all clips in the timeline, but around 40% are affected by this.
Copy and pasting the effect creates the same problem.
How do I fix this if there is a solution? It is an awful lot of work to re-do colour on all affected clips in this project, let alone every project I convert from now on!
Pictured below: With and without effect applied.

Hello,
You could try this : File > Project Settings > General and change the Video Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine software only.
But I'm not sure that it will work because you say : "this does not happen to all clips in the timeline, but around 40% are affected by this."

Unfortunately that hasn't helped.
Thanks for your suggestion though!

I've been seeing the same when using LUTs via the Lumetri effect.

I'm experiencing the same problem. Have you found a solution? Really would be a pain to have to redo the color on all these clips.

I've been having this problem,
first i found that they had updated some of the lumetri presets so if you are using any of these you will need to delete them from the clips or adjument layer and reapply them.
This also happens to my own grades and presets i've created after working on a project for a while. I think it's projects that were created in 2015 that are just bugging out. Normally deleteing the lumetri on the clip that caused all the other clips to go black. save and reopen then it should be ok.
adobe need to fix the bug as it's affecting a lot of people by the looks of it.

I have exactly the same problem. It's a nightmare in fact I can't use premiere pro after uploading to ver 2017.
I am wasting my time and I can't find any help or even any suggestion how to solve this problem.

Years later, I am also having this problem, and there seem to be no solutions online.
I have been an Adobe user since I was 13, and I can't believe the scope of ongoing errors and junk function since CC. I want a refund!!

First comment about that in what, seven years? Not exactly a common issue. Frustrating if you get it of course, mo question.
Sadly you didn't give anywhere near enough information to give even anything but guesses.
So, as is typical for troubleshooting, please provide your OS, CPU, GPU, and GPU driver, especially if Nvidia.
The media that doesn't do this, and media that does ... what are they, what made them, and the difference between them.
Any other effects used, of course. Especially Warp, morph cut, or video noise reduction.
Next, all NLEs work via internal metadata in various files. It's rather common to have a bit of corruption screw up a sequence. So have you done any of the normal troubleshooting steps, like dumping all Premiere cache files, the first, fast, and easiest thing to try. Restart Premiere while holding down any modifier key, select dump cache.
With that information and dumping cache files, we could get after this.
