Project with hundreds of sequences - Will it work

Hi all, so I started in a new job and the last editor has one project file with the companies 250+ video jobs loaded as sequences. I would envisage 60-70 new sequences per year. Im trying to figure out the best way forward. Before I commit long term, any thoughts on the points below or anything Im not considering would be appreciated. Footage and Projects are HD with some larger files like timelapse etc.

A. Is this possible to keep it going like this?.... The project takes 15mins to open and over an hour generating peak, previews etc.

B. The method was probably used to manage the everything from one place, is there any benefit to this.

C. or will I start back to my normal approach and create new projects for each job going forward?

D. If I do this it will be a slow process to be able to import older projects, I could spend a few days exporting each sequence without graphics as a prores file so i have them available to import on other projects for reassemblies?

If it already takes 15 minutes to load its pretty big project.

As you are going to add more assets it will take longer and longer.

I would try and split things up in different manageable projects.

ok obviously this will increase my storage space and duplicate the footage per each projects request. Im thinking may be best to just start to separate projects going forward from now. Plus If I require the common files regularly, I'm thinking to create a Master Common Files project and load all the graphics and sounds and stock shots etc and import that into each separate job project going forward as part of my worklfow. What do you think?

The best solution for this would be the following:

Its a painstaking process but will be worth it in the end:

Save each sequence as a new Project. Yes its gooing to taje some time but maybe if there are common project with a few sequences you could save that as a single project with all 5 sequences. MAke sure you categorize properly or you will get confused

Ok just to make sure I get it right, I create a new project and save it using easy filing system, then copy each job into that then save and close, and repeat those steps to form a new filing system of separated project files?

How do I ensure it brings all the relevant media with it ?

Ok so when you open the project you see many sequences.

You need to save each sequence as an individual file save

Dynamic Link is used between Pr and Ae.

For Sequences from other projects you just import them via the Media Browser.

sorry yeah that's what I mean, would the size of the project affect the time to load sequences as mentioned.

Thanks Ann, I suppose Im trying to see how I get access to the project files as I transition to separate projects, example: Say if I wanted to load a particular sequence using dynamic link, will it bog down my system attempting that.
