Proxies - Still worthwhile?

I've been using proxy footage for a few years now, but in the last couple of years I've noticed no difference in speed scrubbing the sequence back and forth when toggling the proxy button. The thing that speeds things up seems to be the FX mute button

Has anyone else found this?

It all depends on three things ... the original media, the effects used, and the hardware pieces of your computer.

For instance, you can have a computer that handles two tracks of 8K RED without troubles, but struggles with one track of 4K 10 bit DJI drone mp4 media.

So it constantly varies, and as the different major versions all process things differently, a newer version may require more basic "oomph" from the machine. And therefore suddenly proxies become useful, but typically only for certain things.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
