Question

Proxies won't hold MetaData changes - can't change camera label or angle for creating multigroups

I'm trying to set up a workflow with an AE where I give them a hard drive with proxies and have them create multigroups. When they go to change the camera label, the change doesn't stick. I don't know how they can make multigroups if we can't change the camera label. This is happening both with proxies I made through premiere as well as proxies that were made in the field. Please help!

<<When they go to change the camera label, the change doesn't stick.>>

That's what I was responding too... ie: they stick for me. In addition...

<<This is happening both with proxies I made through premiere as well as...>>

I made proxies, indeed after I added the field info for Camera Label, and that was transferred to the Proxies as well...

<<Would be a waste to start over when we have perfectly good proxies>>

Now that you know it works, you seem to want to remove an option you tried / ok'd in the original post.

I'm not sure what you are seeing and especially not sure what Graham is saying? I added the Camera Label field, by simply search the metadata for it and added it. Then I added info in a clip, quit, cambe back and it was there. So, tried another, and same thing.

Then I added those clips to a new project and they were there.

Finally, I created 2 proxy files and the info was there in both.

These were my prefs when I tried it, but you might want to toggle that one option on. And try it for yourself if it doesn't work initially.

Lastly, there are a ton of fields in there... why do you have to use that particular one?

So you're changing the camera label/ angle and THEN creating proxies. We make proxies in the field though to save time in post. Would be a waste to start over when we have perfectly good proxies, but seems like that is another option. The reason camera angle or label needs to be changed is for creating multicams. It stacks the clips on the correct tracks using either label or angle.

You would replace the proxies by relinking to the OCM when the AE has it available to them, or during the online process you could use the "relink to full resolution media" option. But in my opinion it would be best to get this done as soon as possible to ensure there are no problems with the relink

Thanks for the help. Dang, you'd think this wouldn't be so hard. It's a pretty common workflow to have AE only have proxies. Unfortunately my AE won't have access to the OCM as we're wfh.

So I guess another option would be to create the multicams on my end but then pass along to the AE to do the rest of the double checking, labeling audio tracks, and breaking out by scene. Super not ideal.

Unfortunately, premiere needs the original camera media to be connected in order to assign camera label metadata. I do all my mutlicam syncing while I have the OCM (original camera media) linked for this reason.

The work-around is that you could have your AE import the proxies as if they were the original media, assign camera labels and do the syncing, and once the multicams are built, replace the proxies with the OCM
