Ho forum.
I'm trying to create a proxy file following a tutorial, and I'm getting the following error message once I try to create proxy file for my clip. I've tried locating this issue on the internet without luck anyone can explain what the generation settings mean?
Thank you.

This message occurs when you attempt to import an Ingest "Copy and Create Proxies" preset in the Create Proxies dialog, as it is only supported with Ingest Settings. The Create Proxies dialog only supports "Create Proxies" presets. I'm guessing you created your Ingest preset with Transfer > "Copy files to Destination" checked, as well as "Transcode files to Destination" checks. This adds a copy operation on top of the Proxy transcode operation.
You can go to the File menu > Project Settings > Ingest Settings and import your "Copy and Create Proxies" preset. If you check the Ingest checkbox, then any clips you import will copy and create proxies. If you want to use the Create Proxies dialog, then you will need to create an Ingest preset without Transfer > "Copy files to Destination" checked.

Hi Trent, thanks for the information, yes, I had left checked on the Transfer > "Copy files to Destination" checked, as well as "Transcode files to Destination" thus getting that error, once unchecked my proxy settings were created.
But one thing I cannot comprehend is why the proxy file I created is larger than the original file. from original file which is 2GB, the proxy is 8GB.

The size of your Proxy file depends on the codec & settings you chose. For example, if your original file was HEVC (which is highly compressed) and then you chose something like Apple ProRes or GoPro CineForm, then this can happen.
Just because they are Proxies, does not mean they are always smaller, but they may gain you better editing performance It's always good to play around with different Proxy settings to see what works best for you. This includes codecs, frame sizes, etc.
For file size, you can use Export Settings to give you an estimated file size. eg: select one of your original clips, go to Export Settings and choose your desired Format, codec, frame size, etc. Down at the bottom left of the Export Settings dialog, you will see the Estimated File Size. If that meets your criteria, then create a new Ingest preset based upon those settings.
Hope that helps.
