Hello,

In my sequence, if I choose "audio gain" and make a normalize on -3db  I have that :

But if I go again in "audio gain", I don't see "-3 db" displayed, I see "0db". Why ?

Correct answer R Neil Haugen

After having set normalize audio to -3db, the only thing that says me that -3db has been applied is the difference of -3db between the top number and bottom number of this window (gain) :

But if I go in audio panel, I don't see any datas that says me that -3db has been applied.

You are correct about the behavior ... and again, it is because that tool is only intended for use as a quickie tool to get audio to a more usable level for use in the Source monitor or a sequence. Not as a major audio shaping tool.

For that, use the appropriate tools. Which is not that gain function.

That dialog never shows the history of what's been done, only what you are setting now.

Ok, but about the selected part of the sequence, if I set the gain on "normalize -3 db",  how to see if it has been set to -3 db ? By example, if I go in "properties", for "audio volume it says me always "0 db" instead of "-3 db".

In fact, my goal would be to do not exceed -3 db for the audio volume.

The Gain tool is not meant for final audio working. It's just a quickie tool to get audio close to another for general editing purposes.

To check audio on a sequence, you go to the Audio workspace and check either clip or track mixer output levels.

There are of course all sorts of effects than can help shape and control levels to keep from exceeding any given X you choose, and of course there's always setting to match an audio standard like the EBU or whatnot.
