question about subclips

Hello,

I have made a sequence, so when I play it I am in "program monitor" at right.

I would like to create subclips from "program monitor" (and not from "source monitor"). But I see that I cannot do it (create subclip is greyed). Have you a solution ?

PS : I prefer to do it from program monitor because the sequence is more short (2h) than the video in source monitor (4h).

Correct answer PaulMurphy

As I need to create subclips from the full screen mode, I have compared :

— "Source Monitor" full screen :

I do "I" and "O" so I have a selection, and from this selection Control+U is working here.

— "Program monitor" full screen :

I do "I" and "O" and from this selection I try to make Control+U but it does not works.

I have tried to do 2 cuts instead of "I" / "O" in full screen mode, but then I am unable to select the portion between the 2 cuts because I cannot see this portion in full screen mode.

I really need to work in full screen mode in order to see some details in the video (I have a little screen laptop), and I have a big number of subclips to create from the same video.

The Make Subclip option isn't available when the Program Monitor is active, so subclips can't be created directly from in/out points.

If you're using the Program Monitor mainly to work with a shorter section of your footage, here's a practical workaround:

  1. Create a subclip from your full 4-hour clip—for example, a 2-hour section that contains the content you want to use.
  2. Load that subclip into the Source Monitor.
  3. Set In (I) and Out (O) points, then go to Clip > Make Subclip to create additional subclips as needed.

While these new subclips still reference the original media file, starting with a shorter subclip can make it much easier to navigate and isolate the sections you need.

To create a subclip from the timeline:

  1. Make a cut where you want the subclip to start and end.
  2. Select the resulting clip segment, then go to Clip > Make Subclip or press Ctrl+U (Windows) / Cmd+U (Mac).

The subclip will then appear in your Project panel.

Actually I am working in the "program monitor" at top right (see blue arrow), in full screen.

So, in this window full screen, I have set In (I) and Out (O), then I would like to do Control+U but I cannot do it.

My goal is to do not work in the timeline directly (do not do some cuts in the timeline) but work only in the "program monitor".

@pierret18811376,

Ctrl+U does work, but in the Program Monitor/Timeline, In/Out does not effect the clip, but the whole timeline. So the Subclip you create is the whole clip.

As Paul says, in the Program Monitor/Timeline, you must cut the clip to make a subclip from it.
