Question

Re-order Bins

Simple question I've tried a few things.

In most programs you can drag and drop files (Bins) to reorder them. Can anyone tell me if I can drag/reorder bins in a project panel?

I can drag one bin into/under another. What I can't seem to do it the following start order not what I want

1. Stills

2. Illustrator

3.Snaps

End order what I want.

REORDER

2. Illustrator

1. Stills

3.Snaps

Thanks

It's pretty common to utilize padded numbers in a bin naming convention such that they display in the desired order when using List View in the Project tab.

Try the following:

 01 Illustrator

02  Stills

03 Snaps

Otherwise you'll have to use Icon View or Freeform View, but those don't include the Metadata columns which are usually helpful to have available at a glance.

Thanks. I find it amazong that such a sophisticated peice of software will not let you drag drop reorder. I'll try numbering them but don't like the workaround.

There are a number of things about the Project panel that are irritants, no question.

Like ... there are an AMAZING array of metadata fields you can select to show in the meta bar.

One leetle caveat ... just because you have Premiere show a particular data field doesn't mean it will like ... actually look at the file header and show the freakin' data.

That's irked me since forever. And of course, is one of the things engineers know when they see me coming to the booth at both NAB and MAX that they're going to hear about.

There's a Sort icon at the bottom of the Project panel. Change that to User Order and it may do what you need.

I know some editors who add a prefix number to their media/asset folders on the drive, then import the folders into Premiere. That brings them into the app as bins, with the name of the folders.

And sorts the folders in the order they want.

The sort icons icon appears to do nothing. This is very strange, surely this should be a simple excercise, it's horrible!
