I have been asked to do a rush recording of screen and audio for a training video. We used to use Camtasia but we dropped it when I moved editing to premiere. Is premiere not capable of this? What Adobe product do I need? What is quick and easy for those who have used Camtasia in the past because I have to train someone else to do it!

Thanks the quick response, Ann. Is CamStudio truly free? And shouldn't Captivate be included on my Adobe CC account? I'm not seeing where to download it. I work for a univeristy that carries my site license.

Oh sorry Captivate is eol
and yes Camstudio is really free.

EOL? I'm sorry but I don't follow the acronym. I assume it pertains to the license.

Also, is CamStudio a file that can later be edited in Premiere? Can it be edited at all or is it just one shot?

EOL means End Of Life.
You will have to try Camstudio. Dont know how it works.
I use Camtasia. 🙂

so if Captivate is EOL what is replacing it? And why did I find all sorts of links for Captivate 2019? I didn't see anything else on searches of Adobe.

If you check the CC desktop app there is no captivate to download.

The easiest way to do this is with a mac. If you press Command+Shift+5 you have some settings where you can record your entire screen or portions of it, you can show the mouse pointer or hide it, and you can record audio as you manouver the screen. Then simply edit it in Premiere. BOOM!
P.S. Captivate is NOT EOL, it is still going strong, and you can also create Video Demo or simulations using Captivate!
Hope that helps!

Good to know, Mark! Unfortunately I'm at work on a PC with software that only works on a PC. I have a mac personally and would much prefer to use that but it won't work in this case. I am glad to know Captivate is not dead but where is it on my download list? I am working with a University site license.

Unfortunately Captivate is NOT part of the Creative Cloud - Captivate is part of the Technical Communication Suite...
but you can download a FREE 30 Day Trial
....or bring that mac to work!
Hope that helps!

Mark, if the software we were demonstrating worked on Mac I would totally do that! But I'm very disappointed in Adobe for not having this in the Suite. Not interested in paying more to Adobe!

oh I understand. You might be able to do something similar with Quicktime. Or try using the Captivate FREE Trial.

Isn't Quicktime also a Mac software? I'm stuck with PC.

I think Quicktime can be downloaded on windows.... or it used to be
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
But again, you can use the FREE 30 day trial of captivate... that should work just fine.
cheers,
