Recover a deleted mogrt

I accidentally deleted a mogrt I made long ago, from inside premiere's essential graphics panel. This deleted the mogrt file from  C:\users\myname\appdata\roaming\adobe\common\motion graphics templates

But this mogrt is not completely gone. I have projects that use this mogrt, and those mogrt in the project still works. I can also copy the mogrt from the timeline into a new project's timeline, and that also works. I can render out with premiere, but ME crashes.

Is there a way to recover the .mogrt file so I can install it back into the local templates folder? I cannot find my source AE file to re-create the mogrt.

Running windows 11.

To recover a deleted MOGRT, follow these steps:

1. Open a project that uses the AE MOGRT.
2. Reveal the MOGRT in the Project panel and then select Reveal in Finder/Explorer. This will locate the .aegraphic file.
3. Duplicate this file and change the extension to .zip, then unzip it.
4. Inside the unzipped folder, you’ll find an After Effects project and any media used. Open the AE project and save it as a MOGRT again.

For future reference, I recommend saving MOGRTs to Libraries instead of Local Templates to keep cloud backups of everything.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks!! Excellent solution. Not only did I get the mogrt back in premiere I also get the source AE file back.

I only need steps 3 and 4 because I already stashed away a copy of the .aegraphic file, not really sure how it was related to the mogrt.

How did you figure out aegraphic is a zip file containing the AE project, is it documented somewhere? I would never figure that out in a million years.
