Render and Replace AE Dynamic Link

Explorer ,
Apr 07, 2024 Apr 07, 2024

When trying to "render and replace" an After Effects dynamic link composition (to reduce lag in playback/final exporting), it no longer works in the newest version.

1. Dynamic Link

2. Render and Replace

3. "Render and Replace Error - This operation could not be completed due to some errors. Please refer to the Events Panel for details

4. The Events Panel has no details on the error

It should have been able to render the linked comp so that it responds within Premiere as a regular clip

Hi there,

Sorry for the issue. Could you let us know if you see this issue with all projects or only a specific one? Please check if you're using the same versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects. Using different versions of the apps can affect their compatibility. You can also try launching the After Effects project in the background and try the Render and Replace option again. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks,

Ishan

All of my apps are up to date, and the issue seems to be very inconsistent. About 90% of the time, I don't have any issue rendering a linked comp, but then there is that 10% that randomly crops up through all of my various projects I work on. i haven't been able to notice a link (no pun intended) between the occurrences.

Hello,

Although Dynamic link is a fantastic idea, it has never really worked for me as it's unreliable. That may partly be because my hardware isn't powerful enough, but even in theory it doesn't sit well with me to let all these apps running in the background.

Instead I just identify clips that need to be taken to After effects from Premiere, and take only those clips to after effects by exporting those clips from premiere. And even if I use dynamic link, After AE job is done I ensure that I REPLACE the dynamic link clip in premiere with a rendered file from After effects. This ensures that while exporting for delivery I don't have to depend on dynamic link at all.

Hope this is of some help.

Cheers,

Yash
