Request to Disable FX and Audio Shortcut Buttons on Clips

I frequently encounter an issue with the FX and audio buttons on clips, which often results in the timeline getting deselected and unintentionally opening the Effects Controls or Essential Audio panels.

I usually work on fast-paced edits, where my selects can be a few hundred clips, each very short. The recent update has positioned the FX and audio shortcut buttons right in the centre of these shorter clips, making it difficult to select the clips without triggering these buttons. This leads to several workflow interruptions when misclicking:

  1. Copying Clips: When I select a clip and press Command+C, the timeline gets deselected, and I end up copying an effects control window instead of the clip (which obviously doesn't work).
  2. Adding Edits: Using my keyboard shortcut for 'add edit' fails because the timeline isn't selected, leaving the clip untouched.
  3. Deleting Clips: Attempting to delete a selected clip fails as the timeline is deselected, leaving the clip in place and attempting to initiate a delete command in the effect controls panel.

When I try to do these basic tasks, I accidentally click the FX/Audio buttons around 50-100 times per day. This slows me down and becomes increasingly frustrating.

Solution:

Can we please have an option to disable these shortcut buttons? A cleaner timeline without these buttons would prevent accidental clicks and streamline the editing process. They're helpful later on in the edit, but for making selects and throwing together a rough first cut, they're just a pain in the a**.

Hi all!

Hope everyone is doing great. I want to give an update to all of you as promised. In the latest Beta, we have fixed the badges mouse click implementation, so you can move a small clip even if you click on the badges. The FX badge is no longer activated on click. If the intention is to move the clip, we won't open the ECP, and you will be able to move the clip freely in the timeline. If you click and release without moving the clip itself, it will open the ECP or the ESP accordingly.

Thanks again for all the feedback!

Sadly, that's not how it's been working on my system. I've been fighting the ECP or the opacity bar. I often like to grab a clip and move it with the arrow keys one or two frames or up or down a level, and that isn't possible when I'm suddenly in the ECP or my mouse motion (because I got tired of finding myself in ECP and having to go back to the mouse anyway) has just brought my opacity to 73%. However, Kes's "so simple I can't believe I didn't try it" solution is brilliant! Now all I have to do it watch out for the opacity bar, and so long as I keep my clips at their minimum height, we can avoid that annoyance too. So thanks Kes for pointing out that simple solution.

You know you can click on the wrench icon in the timeline and toggle off "Show Audio Type Badges" and "Show FX Badges" right?

GENIUS!! Thanks, Kes! Such a simple solution that I can't believe I didn't think of it. My partner with 10 more years of experience editing than I have ALSO didn't think of it, so I'm feeling a little less like a dolt. My editing will be back at full speed and full of less fury. Thanks!

Glad you guys were able to figure out. Premiere is more vast than we give it credit for. I'd keybind that in the future to avoid the insanity lol.
