RGB Gamut "Violations" Puzzle

Can anyone help?

An automated QC program (Telestream Vidchecker) keeps flagging RGB Gamut violations (screenshot attached) on a master I've exported, and for some reason they still get flagged as violations.

I'm exporting a Quicktime, Apple ProRes 422HQ, 1920x1080, 25fps (progressive) master, with maximum render depth & maximum quality from Premiere Pro to Encoder (export settings screenshot below).

I had hoped that applying an adjustment layer & video limiter would solve the issue, but unfortunatley I haven't been successful. It's strange because if anything the footage looks undersaturated.

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appriciated.

I'd love to see the Waveform scope with 10-bit scale for those frames.

And I'm also wondering if there's a full/legal issue going on. Hmmm.

Hi Neil,

Thank you for your reply. Richard vd Boogaard has given me a pointer which I'd overlooked, I'm going to run some tests.

Thanks again, and I'm sorry for the delay in replying. I'm moving between different projects, as one does.

Best, Alex

Do you get identical flagging results when using one of the default export presets (e.g. HD Master Quicktime ProRes 422HQ)?

Judging from the type of flag that is reported, it appears to be an issue with darker images. The range is defined as 64-255 levels and apparently it falls below the threshold on these segments in the timeline. Consider raising the levels of these segments in the color grade and see if that solves the issue.

Ahhh, I see what you're driving at. That's a good point. I automatically assumed that it was flagging levels that were too high. Thank you, Richard, I'll run some tests.

PS. Apologies for the delayed reply.

@Bruce Bullis might be helpful on this. Or @mattchristensen

Matt knows much more about color than I, and...I think Telestream might be the best source for info on their software's flagging decisions. We're happy to work with them, as always.
