I am attempting to create rolling credits in Premiere Pro v 25.00 Build 61. I don't see the "roll" check box and am not sure I am in the right location. I have all the text functions, but don't see anything labeling it as "Essential Graphics". When I click on Window at the top of the screen "essential graphics" isn't an option. I do not have the text highlighted, but do have the timeline box with the text highlighted.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/
p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

@Theresa Rostek @AnnikaKoenig ... Imaginitive Ninja has a very good point. As ... who would ever think that clicking that blank space would 'open' the Credit Roll option?
Rather anti-intuitive. And given so many upgrades in v25, including ... as I'm finally getting used to the Properties panel's many little gems of selectiveness ... it would be nice if this wasn't a hidden feature.

Hi @R Neil Haugen,
Clicking on that space deselects the layer which brings forth the clip's properties. Clicking on the clip in the timeline will show the clip's properties in the Properties panel. This is the same workflow as in previous versions.

Theresa,
First, thanks for the very fast reply, and all the help you are providing users on the forum. Your efforts are both noted and appreciated here. That said first, as it's Important! ... I also wish to add some comments.
The Properties Panel's new (in Premiere) "context aware" nature is confusing for a lot of users. Stuff isn't there until you select the right thing.
Well, what is the right thing isn't always as obvious to everyone, is it?
As just one example, having most of the tools for text editing available, but not the credit roll, and then, requiring de-selecting the text, to get the credit roll options to show ... for that same text?
Sorry, but it just does not seem at all intuitive for some of us.
You de-select the text ... to get the full controls for that text.
Personally, the basic logic tree there escapes me. I can deduce that the logic must be that "roll" is a 'clip' property, not a specifically text property.
But that logic makes no usable sense for me. And further, it requires an additional step by the user that seems totally unnecessary ... if it was simply "there" to begin with, we wouldn't have to do another mouse click to get it showing.
And I will add, that I've got rather more experience sorting out Premiere's mogrt text/graphics stuff since it was first appearing years ago, than most users. I've even got a credit in the Jarle Leirpoll ebook "Making Mogrts" for working on that book creation. Wow, that's awhile back now ... 😉

Hi @R Neil Haugen,
I wanted to point out that it has not gone unnoticed that users have been lost in the Properties panel workflow. I have been actively having this conversation with the team about how we could have done better, how/where do we think users are getting lost, how do we move forward to fix these issues, etc. No one should have been lost in the first place for a panel that is supposed to be useful and helpful to beginners and experienced users alike.
You make really great points about roll (and context) here and as @Ann Bens points out as well, it wasn't intuitive in previous versions. Roll hasn't changed since it was first implemented.
Roll is meant to roll the entire graphic, 1 text or 10 plus any shapes which is why it is a clip property.
So the question is how can we better guide a user to interact with and be given the right display when they need it? I don't think moving the Roll checkbox to a text property fixes the issue, because what happens if you need to roll several layers? Is this a matter of Graphics being too dissonant from how the rest of Premiere works? (I tend to think of a Pr graphic like a nested sequence, except everything is top-level) Would having the ability to click anywhere on the Properties panel to deselect a layer to get back to the clip properties be useful? Just thinking aloud here.
If you have ideas, please let me know! I value your experience and how dedicated you are to helping folks in the community.

Theresa,
THANK you for that reply! Which is everything I would actually expect of you. And James and Annika and Dacia, of course also.
Because it really approaches the users here with solid, open questions.
I'm thanking through a reasoned response. And while I'm thinking, let's see if Ann or @Warren Heaton or @Stan Jones or a few others like @Jarle Leirpoll pop in.

Maybe a Roll Option button next to the Create Group /New Layer icons.
Selecting the button will deselect text and open the Roll Option as its now.

That is an awesome idea!
Takes up no extra UI space, would be open and apparent, and would only take one click!
Slick, Ann. Very nice.

Great Idea, Ann! I spent lots of time last night googling how to find the Roll option, since I use it very infrequently, and it was gone. It seems all the Youtube videos are outdated, since the roll location is new-ish. I'm not a GUI designer, but it would be a good use of existing space. Thanks to you and all on this thread!

In previous versions it was not very obvious either.

What space is a silver ridiculous why do they remove the roll box that was in responsive design there's just one dumb thing after another in V 25

Hi @randyl49080844,
In Premiere Pro 2025, click onto the clip in the timeline to see the clip's controls in the Properties panel. Right now, you're seeing the text layer's controls.
Cheers,
Theresa

It's not very obvious but click on the empty line.

Wow. This makes absolutely zero sense. Who would think to click in the empty line of the properties panel?
