Question

Saving issues - it takes a very long time...why?

Hi Community,

I am working on an old project originally created in 2020. I use PP professionally so I am familiar with the time it usually takes to save a project. It usually is quick. This one takes about a minute to save and I have my auto-save usually set to 5 minutes. Because of the length it takes, I extended it to 10. Nevertheless, it is really annoying.

Any idea why it could take that long?

My thought is maybe of a pluggin. Is there a way to quickly see all of the pluggin used in one project? Without having to have to go through each sequence (i have maybe 20 sequences on this project, at least) and without having to check each clips ( that would be impossible!!!)

Thanks

By the way, the latest Beta of Premiere Pro has auto-save in the background, give it a try.

@4977934 Jaber so I dowloaded Beta but it looks like a replacement of PP in which all of the settings I have spent time and energy putting aren't there, like my workspaces, guide templates, keyboard shortcuts, etc... can you please explain what is the purpose of having 2 different PP?

This is the upcoming version that is under testing before final release. If you really need an upcoming feature, such as background Auto-save in your case, you can use the Beta version, but you may encounter some bugs.

Look at your project file's size on the hard drive to judge the timing. Usually, the Warp Stabilizer effect adds huge data to the project, if you have a lot of unused stabilized shots, try to get rid of those and see if it helps.

Thanks for your reply

The project is 350 MB. Not very heavy. @Peru Bob The project is on a NAS external drive. We manage many TB of footage and this is one of many similar projects and I don't encounter the lagging time while saving on other projects.

@Ali Jaber Thanks for the tips on the stabilizer. This project was started by another team member. It is impossible for me to through hundred of clips to find which one may have the stabilizer. Is there a way to batch check if the stabilizer has been applied on one or more clip?

@Ali Jaber for teh auto-save in the background, I am not sure what you are referring to as a new feature. I have the auto save enabled for every 5 minutes for as long as I have been using PP. Can you precise what you are referring to?

Regarding the auto-save, Premiere Pro Beta (23.3) has auto-save in the background as a new feature: it will do it without displaying the auto-save dialogue, and your work won't be interrupted. You can install it via the creative cloud app, off course no need to uninstall the current version.

To select all the clips that have the warp stabilizer effect in a sequence, press Ctrl+F (find), search for "warp" and choose find all, all clips with warp stabilizer will be selected.

Also, you can use the remove attributes command (Edit > Remove Attributes), to remove a certain effect from selected clips.

What are the hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, what capacity, and how full)?
