Question

scrolling credits for commencement video takes so long to render simple text!

Hello! I'm working on adding 900+ graduate names and degrees into a rolling text. My concern is that rendering even a short portion of this takes at least 15 minutes using in-out markers. I've already assigned most of my RAM to Premiere (111GB) and I'm on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)

3.6 GHz 10-Core Intel Core i9. If I can't increase the render time, is there a better way to add all of these names, Any help would be wonderful!

Hi! Well, that is the actual method I have used for all 900 names after importing them as plain text in the Essential Graphics section. The problem is, once I choose "roll" that is when my entire timeline acts up.

I have the same task!  Though for about 300 names.  Here is a handy video I found that describes how to preview parts of your roll (or project) in real, rendered time without rendering the whole roll: https://youtu.be/0wIQzC1D8JI  Go to the chapter, "Rendering previews."

In Premiere Pro, did you stretch your text/graphic box to fit all 900 names, as I did with mine?  Did it remain stable?  Mine worked for awhile but inexplicably started to unroll, so to speak.  I am still trying to figure out why.

Meanwhile, it looks as if the Photoshop solution worked best for you?

As for After Effects, it became apparent to me (and some forums noted) that it was not made for such long rolls (or so it seemed to me).

Use multiple sequences then nest them into one sequence .

another way, Create a document in Photoshop, Put all the names , them import the file into Premiere Pro

I would without a doubt use After Effects for that. Export as Apple ProRes and import the file to Premiere Pro.

It sounds easier said than done but that method sounds like I'll need to create key frames to scroll when I get back into Premiere?

No, you create the entire roll in After Effects with keyframes inside After Effects. The end result will be a file/movie that one import into Premiere Pro as a regular clip and place it on the timeline. It demands basic skills in After Effects though.

I did a test after i wrote my first post. 900 names did indeed create problems in Premiere Pro. It did work but it was hard to see what one actually did so it became hard. 900 names is less sluggish to work with in After Effects.

I did create a simple After Effects project that i attached to this post. It is a very basic roll with 900 names. You will see two keyframes on the first layer. The keyframe to the right is the one you can move to speed up or speed down the duartion. The composition is 1920x1080 @ 25 fps, but it can be changed by pressing Ctrl+K to bring up the Composition Settings dialog.
